The Master Plan envisions a park with a balance of passive and active recreation uses. The Master Plan re-envisions parking lots, buildings, and groves of trees as a green oasis linked by a network of pedestrian paths. Program Elements Vehicular Circulation To maintain the continuity of the park, the plan proposes the permanent closure of several east- west streets to vehicular traffic. As part of the Imagine Downtown process, JSA was publicized as one of five focus areas requiring planning attention. Dates and times of all public events were posted on the Central Atlanta Progress website (www.atlantadowntown.com). E-mail comments were welcomed and encouraged. Several questions in the online ‘Imagine Survey’ were directed toward development in the JSA-McGill corridor. The centerpieces of the public involvement process were three public workshops; the second being a three-day long ‘Charette Week’ designed to build awareness and excitement through an intense set of collaborative exercises. 2.1.1 Public Workshop 1 The first public workshop was held on August 19, 2003 on the 27th floor of SunTrust Tower; over 200 persons attended. This proposal is the most important decision that the Board and membership of NRC has faced in its 30 year history, and rightfully it requires the approval of the membership to take effect. The NRC will conduct a referendum vote of its members before the end of summer. The NRC Board strongly encourages members to carefully review the proposal and consider the dynamic future that it provides for our mission. The proposal was emailed to all GRC members in good standing on June 0, 2009; if you need another copy, please go to the NEWS tab on the GRC website where the letter and associated documents are all posted: www.georgiarecycles.org. As an affiliate of NRC, the Georgia Recycling Coalition members will each be allowed one vote to determine if the NRC board should be directed to expedite this merger. The GRC board will be holding a conference call with Ed Skernolis of NRC and Matt McKenna of KAB to discuss pertinent provisions of the merger with respect to our organization.
