October 11, 2012

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the citizens of New Hampshire, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2012 New Hampshire Film Festival.

Again this year, several New Hampshire state agencies — the Department of Cultural Resources, the Division of Economic Development, the Division of Travel & Tourism Development, the Film & Television Office, the Liquor Commission and the Lottery Commission — have provided support for this important event held in historic downtown Portsmouth.

Since 2001, the New Hampshire Film Festival has brought together members of the filmmaking industry and others who love the craft for an extended weekend of workshops, panel discussions, networking and the opportunity to view outstanding films.

Films have been an important part of New Hampshire's community and economy since the first film houses opened here more than a century ago.

Filmmaking also strengthens our economy. According to the New Hampshire Film & Television Office, more than $1 million dollars is spent in New Hampshire each year on filmmaking and other media production. That money not only supports those directly involved in the projects, but also supports several local businesses.

The New Hampshire Film Festival shines a bright spotlight on what is best about our state's traditions of both filmmaking and film viewing. Congratulations on what is sure to be another marquee year.

Sincerely,

John H. Lynch Governor
