Introduction Founded in 1911 as one of the seven in , Kyushu University has been a leader in education and research not just in Japan but throughout Asia. Currently, it has 11 undergraduate departments and 18 graduate schools with their affiliate research centers. The university’s main strengths lie in particularly active and innovative science programs, as is shown by the fact that it runs one of the most highly regarded and advanced medical schools in Asia. The University is currently in the process of relocating to the new state-of-the-art campus in Ito, which will, upon completion, make the university quite unrivaled in Asia in terms of advanced research facilities. Kyushu University is located in , a pleasant coastal city of 1.5 million people and the largest metropolis on the island of Kyushu. Thanks to its favorable location, the city of Fukuoka has prospered as Japan's gateway to continental Asia from ancient times. Being aware of the precious history and favorable location of Fukuoka, Kyushu University is focusing on Asia and its role in the world. Aiming to recruit outstanding international students as well as to transmit and gather academic information abroad, the University established 10 overseas offices and each office is located in London, Munich, San Jose, Washington D.C., Seoul, Beijing, Taipei, Bangkok, Hanoi, and Cairo. Major activities Kyushu University Bangkok Office was established in November 2009 at Chulalongkorn University. Its major activities include disseminating Kyushu University’s information in Thailand, offering supports to Kyushu University in organizing briefing sessions to recruit students in Thailand, gathering academic information in Thailand, and offering advices to Kyushu University relating to its academic activities. The Office is temporarily closed in 2013. The University has another office in Thailand, which is Kyushu University Branch Office in Mahidol University established in 2007. The branch office is providing facilities for the University’s staff who are engaged in educational and research collaboration with Mahidol University.
