Key Takeaways: „ United Methodist leaders express grief and support for survivors of Scouting-related sex abuse. „ Longstanding ties between The United Methodist Church and the Boy Scouts of America are strained by the latter’s sex abuse-related bankruptcy. „ A denominational legal committee says an agreement the BSA has reached with lawyers for sex-abuse survivors does not provide liability protection for local churches that chartered Scout troops. „ Some United Methodist leaders are advising local churches not to renew sponsoring or chartering relationships with Boy Scout troops, though they are not saying to sever ties.
