Laban Theatre presents the very best contemporary dance – your chance to see major dance companies and the stars of tomorrow live and up close. ingenious choreography The Observer on Impermanence Dance Theatre

This 50-minute film, narrated by Billy Zane, was inspired by the 1915 pacifist satire The Ballet of the Nations, written by Vernon Lee and illustrated by Maxwell Armfield as a response to the First World War. Impermanence’s film incorporates original dialogue and a narrative of intricate stylised dance pieces, imagining war as a diabolical dance choreographed by Satan and Death. The dance descends into a massacre, locking the nations of the world into an endless cycle of slaughter and mutilation.

Bristol-based Impermanence co‑founders Roseanna Anderson and Joshua Ben‑Tovim make their directorial debut with production design by Pam Tait, cinematography by Jack Offord and an original score by Robert Bentall. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the company and collaborators. LABAN THEATRE £8 (£6)
