Undoubtedly one of the leading forces in the world of vocal music today, The Real Group is famed for its superlative creativity, delighting audiences with jazz originals and reworkings of popular favourites. Hailing from Sweden, The repertoire are the standards Real Group has created a unique musical expression in a field between on which every jazz artist jazz, pop and Nordic European choral music. …eventually must prove his mettle’ Formed at Stockholm’s Royal Academy of Music, from which the original group graduated in 1989, The Real Group has enjoyed an international CHICAGO TRIBUNE touring career for 30 years, with highlights including performances at prestigious events such as the Queen of Sweden’s birthday (when it ‘I wish I was in this group’ performed the Abba classic ‘Dancing Queen’ together with the former Abba JON HENDRICKS member Anni-Frid Lyngstad) and the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. Its versatility and creativity makes it possible for the group to collaborate with symphony orchestras, jazz groups, big bands and pop bands alike – not to mention artists such as Barbara Hendricks, Toots Thielemans and Sir George Martin. The Real Group hosts its own festival in Stockholm, welcoming visitors from more than 20 countries. In 2015, the group presents the LEVELELEVEN festival with Finnish a cappella group Rajaton. Education and outreach remains at the core of the group’s work, and regular workshops and courses are offered through The Real Group Academy. The singers are proud to be Ambassadors for the charity Star For Life in Sweden and South Africa. With an impressive and popular discography, The Real Group has released a wealth of celebrated discs, including their most recent offerings: ‘Live in Japan’ (2013) and ‘The Real Group’ (2015), a compilation album for the group’s 30 th anniversary.
