Bible Study Outline THEME: COVENANT WITH THE LIVING GOD SUB-THEME 1: The Living God – Who is He? (2) TOPIC: The Immortal, Creator of Heaven and Earth TEXT: Gen. 1:1; Jer. 32:17

AIMS: i. to teach God’s almightiness in creation and His immortality, and ii. to show us how we can share in God’s immortal and creative power.

INTRODUCTION: Immortality is one of the attributes of the Triune God, and it means the state of not being liable to or subject to death.God lives forever and can never die. The scriptures affirmHim to be the Creator of heaven and earth, contrary to the claims of some scientists and atheists. How the immortal God created heaven and earth and continues to govern and sustain them is what we shall see in this study.

STUDY GUIDE: 1. What do you understand by the phrases, “Immortal God” and “Creator”?

2. How is God described in 1 Tim.1:17; 6:16; Rev 4:11?

3. Explain the almightiness of God in Josh 10:12-13; Acts 12:21-24

4. How can man share in God’s immortal and creative power? Psalm 24:1-4; John 14:12-13.

CONCLUSION: There is no sustainable argument against the affirmation in the Bible that the immortal God is the Creator of heaven and earth. Indeed, He has gone further to make man in His own image and demonstrate how we can share in this awesome power – through faith in Christ!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:God, the Immortal, invisible and the only wise.

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Tim 1:17 “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God Who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen”.

SPIRITUAL TONIC FOR THE WEEK Romans 8: 37

“... In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

Father in heaven, thank You for loving me and for endorsing my victory with the precious blood of Your Son Jesus Christ. As I continue in the journey through year 2021, I declare my victory over death, I shall not die. I announce my victory over satan and his demons, they will not succeed in their enterprise against my life. I publish my success in my struggle with the forces of nature and of darkness, they will not overcome me. I am more than conquerors because I have the Lord’s backing and approval to proceed. I am victorious in Jesus name. (Amen) DIOCESAN ANTHEM (TUNE: AUSTRIA)

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Niyi and Bola. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. “If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, ‘Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.’” Niyi turned to his younger brother and said, “Bola, you be Jesus!”

PRAYER FOR THE YEAR

Heavenly Father, what a privilege and joy it is to have the freedom to draw near to Your throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find help in time of need. We thank You for the days of our lives - the past, the present and the future - they are all in Your hand. Father as the days get darker and wickedness increases, we ask that Your presence will go with us in all our journeys; grant us wisdom and courage to face the time and tides of this year, empower us with Your strength and make us victorious in all our battles - physical and spiritual, through the merit of the Captains of our Salvation, Jesus Christ our Lord. (Amen)

TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 20:4

STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST MY KING SS&S 877 Tune: Standing on the promises of Christ, my King 1. Standing on the promises of Christ, my King, Through eternal ages let his praises ring; Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God, my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail. When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living Word of God I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God.

3. Standing on the promises I now can see Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free Standing on the promises of God.

4. Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord, Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord, Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword, Standing on the promises of God.

5. Standing on the promises I cannot fall, Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call, Resting in my Saviour as my All in all, Standing on the promises of God.

SOUL FOOD 02/2021

“As soon as Jesus was baptised, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, this is my Son whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.” - Matthew 3:16&17

We started this year with assurance of victory over challenges of life, principality, powers of darkness, physical enemies, all forms of delay and even over COVID 19 Pandemic ravaging the whole world. It is certain and definite that God will bring to pass all he has promised through His servants. It is also normal and expedient for us to anticipate the fulfilment of these promises. However, apart from believing and anticipating the fulfilment of God’s promises, we need to know that for everything that happens on earth there is always a stimulus or determinant that fuels or facilitates the process. God’s blessing is always conditional. There are things that must be in place for the blessing to come upon us as promised, planned and as expected.

The blessing we are promised in 2021 is Surprising Victory. This will not just happen, there are catalysts that must be ensured for victory to attend our ways. In the next couple of weeks, we shall be considering these. The first in the series is Divine Endorsement.

Endorsement is an explicit or formal approval, or an express consent given to someone or something. Endorsement serves as signature that validates. This is exactly what happened at Jesus’ baptism. God endorsed and approved Jesus Christ and His ministry on earth. “…And a voice from heaven said, this is my Son whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17. This endorsement is an announcement of God’s satisfaction with Jesus and a declaration of His love for Him. This gives Jesus the divine backing in all that He embarked upon during His earthly ministry, and in the end, He recorded unprecedented, surprising victory.

Divine Endorsement is one major catalyst for surprising victory to happen in the believer’s life. God endorsed and approved Jesus Christ by the presence of Holy spirit upon him in form of dove and the open declaration that He is His beloved and begotten Son. There is no other endorsement greater this. The stamp of God is a necessary catalyst to receiving surprising victory this year. God must commend us for the victory He has prepared for His people. Apostle Paul said, “Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” 2 Cor. 3:5. We are nothing to claim this surprising victory for ourselves, God must approve us for it. The commendation of God is the substance that enables us to receive our victory in a surprising manner - the catalyst that provokes and speeds significant change in our positions and lives leading us to victory on all side.

Divine endorsement is an indication that God knows us and that He is satisfied with us. Jesus needed baptism to endear Himself to God and so He humbled Himself to be baptised by John the Baptist and God did not hesitate to honour Him. We too must endear ourselves to God at the start of another year by humbling ourselves before Him, one for Him to take notice of us as His children - His special possession; and two, for Him to grant us the approval to be victorious in all our battles. God will not waste His heavenly resources on strangers and aliens to the commonwealth of His kingdom, He will only deploy His divine armoury for the sake of those who have received His signature and approval for life through repentance and holy living.

Now the pertinent questions calling for answers are: Does God know you? Do you have His endorsement to carry on in life? Today is another opportunity to present ourselves afresh to God for the cleansing that will position us for His divine endorsement. Let us jettison self-righteousness and all that are opposed to His commandments and embrace His way as we journey through 2021, then, He will be satisfied with us and grant us the approval to be victorious in life.

May God Almighty endorse us for great heights and surprising victory in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Have a Blessed Week!
