03 An experiential Cité

The principle components of the Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis’ main program will be:

A centre of interpretation and experimentation related to temporary exhibitions;

A fab lab designed to encourage creativity and public participation;

A fully equipped auditorium;

A modular platform enabling advanced training based on the Cité’s main themes;

Concept stores and specialist shops (bookshop, design store, etc.);

Restaurants staffed by gastronomy students and trainees;

Diverse dining, from street food and innovative bistros to fine cuisine;

A covered street for large banquets and live gastronomic shows;

Educational gardens linked to nearby urban farms.

2018 Creation of the events program. Launch of the Digital Cité. Start of the tender process with a view to establishing the Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis and its neighbourhood.

2020 Winning operator announced.

2022 Building work on the Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis and its neighbourhood commences.

2024 Opening of the Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis. Extended metro line 14 begins operating.

Line 14 métro station 5 minutes from Direct access via the A86 will be on the site from 2024 International Airport highway (Roissy-Orly link) linking to Paris-Gare de Lyon and the A6 in 20 minutes. 06 The Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis project was launched following UNESCO’s classification of the “gastronomic meal of the French” as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The Cité de la gastronomie Paris-Rungis is part of the network of Cités alongside Dijon, Lyon and Tours.

Supported by the towns of Chevilly-Larue, Orly, Rungis, and Paris, the departement of Val-de-Marne and the Ile-de- region, this new hub of gastronomy in a vibrant 7-hectare area will open in 2024, near the Rungis international market. A centre of culture, creativity and conviviality, the Cité will promote sustainable food and responsible gastronomy around the social and festive practice of the meal.
