2- 2v2 Tag-Up Game(8/26) 2v2 players must pass to coach on every turnover…both players who transition to offense must circle cones before attacking…Coach changes players every 30 seconds.

3- Puck Skills (8/34minutes) Stationary Figure 8’s, expansion of reach, toe drag, wide dribble, around body…30 secs on 30 seconds rest

Transition Games:

1 End Zone: 2v2 or 3 v 3 Transition Game (8/42) Players start 2v2 (3v3) , coach gives one team the puck to attack 2v2 (3v3), new set of 2(3) players funnel in to gap up and 2 play…play is live until puck crosses top of circle, then team w/o puck is replaced by new players…continuous.

2nd end zone: 3 v 2 with middle line drawn. (8/50) Only 2 players can be in defensive zone…3rd player waits in offensive zone waiting for a quick transition pass for her other 2 teammates.

Half Ice Scrimmage: even player competition (10/60)

Put nets on blue lines facing in. Boarders across end zone face off dots. Players are in the players benches. Play 4 v 4…rolls the lines next player sup go. Coach stands on far side of boarders with all pucks. Coach tossing 3 new pucks into play on changes. If a goalie makes the save the puck is dead…have goalies put pucks on top of the net after a save. One puck can only attack one net at a time. Players change (sprint to benches) when all 3 pucks are scored or 30 second on coaches whistle. High tempo drill.

12U Practice 7.8 Time: 60 Minutes Players: 30+

1. Warm-Up: Puck, Passing & Skating Skills (8/8) -O1 & O2 fwd around circle & slalom through tires, shoot & go to the net. ***At 5 minute mark, have players use slip move around each tire

-X1 passes to X2, both players skate around border and cross, puck carrier in front and drop to partner, repeat at each border, player with puck around last border shoots, partner hard to net for rebound…alternate lines.

5 Stations @ 8 min (40 min/48 total) Agility on Whistle: 2 Forward rolls

Station 1: Support & Attack with Escape -X1 & X2, O1 & O2 start on whistle. X1 & O1 with pucks skate pattern through tires as shown. X2 & O2 cut up the ice around tire and support diagonally across ice for short pass, puck carrier attacks wide with speed, escape up the boards protecting puck passes to late attacker (X1 & O1) for shot…both players to net for rebound. Play till goal scored or whistle. Both sides simultaneously

Station 2: 1v1 with 4 Man Support Support players are always on offense. Coach spots puck for 1v1 battle, player with puck must pass to any support player and get open. 4 support players + Offensive player all work together to score goals. Support players can pass to each other but focus on getting puck back to player in 1v1, puck must be passed to support player on every turnover for players to switch from to offense. Station 3: 1v1 Bear Pit Protect & Attack Coach spots puck for 1v1 battle…Players protect puck (15 sec) inside circle till whistle…on whistle, off player attacks net, & def player defends Players should not expose puck to opponent Note: Half way through drill, can play 1v1v1

Station 4: 1v1 or 2v2 with Point Shot or Pass Coach spots puck for 1v1 (2v2) battle…team with puck passes to their point man for shot on net (must keep it knee height & down for tips & rebounds) or return pass to teammate to attack. Switch out in 1 man rotation every 30-45 seconds…puck must go back to point man on every turnover. Defenders cannot cover point man.

: SAG Gretzky 3v3 – 10 minutes Each team has a fourth player below the offensive goal line (Gretzky). Play 3v3. When a team gains puck possession they must pass to their Gretzky before they can attack the net. The Gretz can only pass and must stay below the line. Defensively players must look to pick up the open players as the Gretz can’t score. Play for 60 second shifts.

Players get chance to shoot all type of shots.

Be sure to switch sides so players receive pucks from both sides of their bodies.

Station 3: Ringette Keep Away (7min) Players play keep away with Ringettes in odd numbered situations. You can play 1v1, 1v1v1, 2v1, etc…Work on stick strength and a strong bottom hand. Encourage them to stay in a tight area so body contact occurs.

Station 4: Small Area Game (7min) Always 2v1 Station 3 Players play a 2v2 small area game with the parameter that when they are on offense it is always a 2v1. One X player from each team is designated be stay on offensive O side of the half line. When teams have puck possession on X O X O offense it should always be a 2v1. Players work on odd man situations. On the defensive side, player not allowed Y back into the defensive zone is ready to get open for a X clearing pass. Body contact is allowed and encouraged in O tight areas. O

Game 1: 3 Zone Scrimmage (10 minutes) X Teams are split into 3 zones by color. The black team (B) is attacking one direction while the white team (W) is O attacking the other direction. Teams advance the puck, Station 4 zone by zone to their teammates trying to get as many pucks to their teammates in the offensive zone to score. Only players in the offensive zone are allowed to score. The players in the neutral zone and defensive zone must maintain possession of the puck until they can pass Game 1 to a player in the offensive zone. Encourage communicating and calling for pucks. Discourage dumping pucks out and in and just getting rid of it. MAKE PLAYS!!!!! Players will rotate zones every B W B couple of minutes so they play in each zone. B W W

Works on transition, puck possession, power play/penalty kill, communication, and team play.

12U Practice 23.24 Number of Players: 30+

Equipment Required: 3 Nets, 4 Tires, Dividers, Ringettes, Pucks Time: 60 Minutes

Station 1 Moving Body Contact- 8mn Players move in pairs along the wall at moderate speed. O Station 2 Player X uses good technique to engage in body contact with player O. Player X has his stick down and plays stick X blade to stick blade as he closes on player O. Body position is even slightly ahead so that the future potential for O to cut inside is eliminated. Player X must angle and maintain his skating lane as body contact is used to gain Station 1 puck. After contact, player X separates from O and repeats the contact several times as the pair move up the boards. Repeat back in the opposite direction having the players change positions.

Station 2: 1v1 Around Circle Forward-8mn O X O X The defensive player X mirrors offensive player O around the circle with good body and stick position. X must play X O O X stick on puck with peripheral vision while maintaining body position on O. Not too far ahead or behind. Once around Station 6 Station 3 the circle player O can attack the net and player X can close with body contact and defend. X O X O

X O X O Station 3: Thrust of War – Side -8mn Have players pair up. Players begin shoulder to shoulder. X O On signal from the coach the players push against each ot her. Keep the stick and arms down while attempting to X O use the legs to push against your partner. Knee bend is important for balance and stability.

Station 5 Station 4: 1v1 out of corner-8mn Station 4 Coach throws puck along the wall in the corner. X and O leave at the same time battling for the puck They should make contact then battle for the loose puck. Whoever O comes out with the puck attacks the net for a chance to O score. Works on angling, loose puck battles, stick strength, … O balance , and body contact. X C O Station 5: Ringette Keep Away- 8mn Have 2 less rings in play than players. The players without O X rings try to steal a ring from someone who has one. After X

60 second stop the activity and have the players without a X O ring do some type of quick agility exercise such as drop to O their knees and get up 5 times. Use a confined space on the ice. O Station 4: Guard the Gate ¬ Players pair up. Coach spots a puck into an open ¬ space and both players compete to gain puck ¬ ¬ ¬ X possession. After X makes the pass to Y, go to the net for a rebound chance. X and Y O should switch lines and sides every other time. Players need to know habits of all positions and situations! Station 3: 3 v 2 Competition X O Players compete 2v2 for 30 second shifts in a tight, confined area. Keep count of offensive goals and C.. X X X change rolls every shift. Focus on offensive O X X support, coming to the puck, defensive man on man X and defensive support, stick checks, passing lanes…. Make sure to switch sides of the box for the passes for the goalies and the shooters.

Station 5: ringette body contact progression Play keep away with a ringettes (sticks upside down). Force them to keep their sticks on the ice and take good angles, this should be played in a small area. Depending on the number of players play with 2-3 groups going at the same time, have them go for about 30 seconds. Then progress to a ringette game where the players are trying to hit a tire with the ringette. Again depending on the number of players you may play with 1, 2 or 3 ringettes at the same time. The focus should be on puck protection and using your body to seal the defender, also the defender being strong on her stick and using good angles to get possession of the ringette.

If there is a goal or the goalie freezes it or the defensive team skates it over the blue -line the coach throws a new puck into that zone and a new group of three or four from each team enters that zone.

Focus on: support off the puck , first touch and puck possession, limiting turnovers. Man on man defense and “owning the middle of the zone”.

Get the players to really compete and battle for possession.

Keep score at each end to add a little more intensity to the game.

Rules of dodgeball apply. they sprint out of the zone over the blue line at which point Works on athleticism, balance, agility, coordination, the next 2 v0 begins. Works on puck support, puck possession and protection.

St ation 2: Puck control/shooting 8mn X goes up the wall and does a series of tight turns. After the 3 rd cone, x shoots to score. If a rebound is left, they can try to bang it home. After the shot, pick up another puck to the side of the net and skate a 360 around the cone and make a hard fake to forehand for a hard wrist shot to score. Play rebound if there is one. Works on puck control, shooting, scoring, edge control. R

Station 3&6: 2v2 with rover 8 minutes O X Players play 3 v3 with a rover. The rover (R) is always on offense. Whichever team has the puck, the rover plays with them. On any transition, the rover switches to the other team always creating a 4v3 opportunity. Station 3 & 6 Works on transition, puck possession, power play/penalty kill, communication, and team play.

Station 5 Station 4 X O C X X C Station 4: Breakouts/scoring habits 8mn X X Coach dumps a puck into the corner, a player from the line goes and retrieves it, checking over his shoulders. Upon X X X retrieving the puck, the player then makes a break out pass. The player that catches the breakout pass, skates around the cone and takes a wrist shot on net to score. After breakout pass, the player moves to the wing position. Switch sides every time. Works on habits, breakouts, passing, scoring, team play. . Station 5: Offensive concepts 8 minutes Coach dumps puck in. X retrieves it checking over both shoulders. Upon retrieval x then does a figure 8 around the cones simulating escaping from a D. After the figure 8, x passes to his point O and goes to the net. O walks the line and shoots for a tip in. Make sure players play both positions. Works on puck protection, passing, team play, and scoring.

Small Area Game:Piggy Back 3v3 12mn X X X X X X

Play 3v3 cross ice for 40 sec. shifts with the nets piggy backed. Piggy backing the nets changes the angle of attack for players and the goaltenders. Works on O O O O O O transition, passing, communication, goal scoring and team play.

12U Practice 69.70 Time: 60 Minutes Number of Players: 30+

Equipment: Borders, 6 Nets, 13 Cones, Marker, 75 Pucks.

Puck Handling/Passing (7 mins) Players skate the length of the ice handling the puck while jumping over three borders. When they jump the border, they make an indirect pass to themselves and finish with a shot on net. Coming back the other direction, players pair up and pass 2v0 until they cross the blue line. Once over the blue line, one player shoots and the other looks for a rebound.

Stations 3 x 8 minutes each Agility: Russian Walks

Station 1: Breakout to 1v1 The player closest to the middle of the ice takes a puck behind the net. When that happens the player in the other line times it and gets into a puck supporting postions along the wall. The player going behind the net passes to the other player who goes up and around the tire (inside out) and attacks the net. The player who made the breakout pass gaps up and plays the 1v1 back against him/her. Works on: passing, support, skating, body contact, competing, timing, and systems.

Station 2: Body confidence/contact Players will do a number of body confidence/contact drills. They will pair up with a player of like size and do tripod pushes, thrusts of war, shoulder bumps, mirror drills, and receiving a check. Works on: balance, coordination, skating, body contact

Station 3: Flow passing/shooting One player starts with a puck (at each end) and takes a shot on net. After the shot on net, he/she goes and picks a puck up from the pile next to the net. As the puck is picked up the player in the other line times it and takes off looking for a pass. That player catches the pass dekes the tire and goes in for a shot. After the shot, he/she picks up a puck and the drill flows continuously. Works on: skating, passing, shooting, timing, support, puckhandling, scoring.

Small Area Games:8 minutes each 1-D coverage game.- players play 2v2 in a small area. They have to pass to their line before they can attack. The player in line can shoot or pass. Teach how to defend the net front. 2-PP game-players compete 5v5 but 3 have to stay on the offensive side the whole time making each situation a 3v2 in the offensive end. Teach how to isolate 2v1s. 3-Backcheck game-players start off in a 2v2 situation with the defending players teammates waiting on the other side of the half line. When the D players get the puck they breakout their team. The 2 that were on offsense now backcheck and become the defending players. The transition for players goes a such, prepare to be broken out, attack, backcheck, breakout your team, change. Teach transition, back pressure, line changes

12U Practice 71.72 Time: 60 Minutes Number of Players: 30+

Warm Up: 5 minutes XXX Have the players identify their favorite NHL player. For 5 minutes have the players pretend that they are that NHL player. They can do whatever they want that emulates their favorite player…be creative.

Transition Skating – 7 minutes Always face the opposite end of the ice. Skate forward to backwards around the two large circles and two neutral zone dots. Can be done with pucks. XXX

Players begin around the outside of the circle. The player in the middle attempts to intercept passes made between the outside players. If the player in the middle X X X X steals the puck he moves to the outside and a new player takes his place.

Station 3: 2v1 Keep Away

Divide players into groups of three. Two players attempt to play keep away from the other player in their group. If the puck is stolen a new player becomes the odd man out.

Station 4: 2v2 Tight Space Game Play 2v2 for 40 second shifts. Emphasis is on scoring. Add in different rules. Score on any net, backhand shots only, dekes only, etc. Encourage body contact with good stick on puck positioning.

Game: 4 on 2 Game – 12 minutes Play 2v2 cross ice with two additional stationary teammates below the opponents goal line. Players must pass to a teammate below the goal line before they can score.

12U Practice 73.74 Time: 60 Minutes Number of Players: 30+

Equipment: Borders, 5 Nets, 3 Tires, Marker, Ringettes, 75 Pucks.

Station 1: Ringette Keepaway 8mn Station 2 Every player goes at the same time. Use either 2 or 3 Station 1 ringettes depending on the number of kids in the station. If 6 players, use 2 ringettes, if 8 players, use 3 ringettes. Players compete for ringettes and play keep away. If you have a X ringette, protect it, if you don’t have one, try to take one away X o from someone who does. Works on puck protection, X O X X competing, stick strength, and heads up awareness. o X O Station 2: Breakout to 1 v 1 8mn X X X Coach dumps a puck in and X goes back to retrieve it. Station 3: Breakout to 2v2 8mn Player X carries puck around net and make a breakout pass to player O. Second X head to the front of the net. Player O carries the puck around the tire passes to player Y. Y and O skate around the tires and attack X 2v2 who has gapped up. XXX Th e first time players are at this station have them play Y defense. The second time that they are there they play offense. Works on team play, odd man rushes, passing, scoring, and defending. Station 5 Station 4 Station 4: 2v2 with coach 8mn X Players play 2v2 in a tight area where the offense has to pass X X to the coach before attempting to score. Coach can move X around behind the net to help players get open. Designate 2 on offense and 2 on defense. Offensively teach how to get open after giving a pass (give and go’s), defensively, teach C how to defend and not stare at the puck. If a player is on their off side, they should one time the puck at the net. Get players moving rapidly so that you can maximize time and get in as many scoring opportunites as possible. Works on receiving, scoring, goaltending, and team play. Small Games Set up 2 lines to maximize repetitions.

Cross Ice Scoro (9 min) Russian Scrimmage Playes line up in front of their own net with 8 pucks across the middle. On the whistle, the players attempt to score pucks in the opposite net. The game is over when all the pucks are scored. The winning team is the team that has scored the most! Winning teams advance to play each other while the losing team works on saucer passes in the neutral zone.

Russian Scrimmage (9min) Players are on benches. Players play multiple different 1v1s, 2v2s, 2v1s etc…players can only shoot on the goalie if he is looking at them. Warm up: Y pivot drill: (7 mins) Player starts at the bottom of a circle and skates backward to the dot. At the dot they pivot at 45 degree angle and skate forward to the edge of the circle. At the edge of the circle they stop and stop and transition backward to the dot again. At the dot, they pivot and skate to the bottom of the circle where they started. The player then repeats that on the other side of the circle. Emphasize using their sticks to lead them in pivot direction. Discourage crossing over. Works on: skating, pivots, edges, body control

Stations: 3 x 12 minutes (36 mins) Station 1: Body Contact Part 1- QC contact-A pass is made from inside player to player on the wall. The player who catches the puck skates down the wall and the inside player angles off with proper body contact to separate puck. Inside player gains possession and passes to next player on wall to restart drill. Works on: skating, puckhandling, passing, body contact, angling Part 2- BO to 1v1:- Defensive player swings the net and makes a breakout pass. The offensive player goes around tire inside to out and attacks 1v1 on D who follows play up ice and pivots taking away the middle. Works on: skating, passing, puckhandling, competing, break outs, body contact Station 2: Passing/Shooting/Puckhandling Part 1- Bow Tie passing-player 1 takes off without puck and gets pass from player 2. Player 1 collects pass and passes to player 3. When player 3 gets pass, player 2 takes off and gets pass from player 3. Player 2 collects pass and hits player 4. Keep progression going. Works on: passing/receiving, skating, puck handling, teamwork Part 2- Pivot shooting- Player carries puck to the tire and pivots around it, skates to second tire and pivots the opposite way around it then attacks the net for a shot on goal. Station 3: Read/react Part 1- Triangle attack- Player at top of circle passes to player in corner. He/she passes to player behind net who hits the original passer attacking the net for a shot. Shooter movers to corner, corner player moves to behind net, and behind net goes back into line. Works on: skating, passing/receiving, shooting, team play, offensive concepts, scoring Part 2- 1v1 to 1v1- players on goal line compete for loose puck when goes says go. The winner of the loose puck passes to the player at the top of the circle who attacks the loser of the 50/50 puck for a 1v1. Progress to a 2v1. Small Area Game- Net front coverage game Players play 2v2 and each team has a two designated shooters on their team (like d men) that they have to pass to before they are on offense. The D have to pass D to D before shooting. Defensive players can not defend the point men but have to pick up the players they are playing against. On whistle players playing are out of the zone, the D men become the 2v2 and 2 new players become the D men
