Rose Hill School Years 5&6 Reading List This reading list is intended as a general guide only. It should not be seen as an exhaustive list of books that students must read during the year. The books on this list are considered suitable reading material for the majority of children in Years 5 and 6 at Rose Hill School. • By Jacqueline Wilson. Katy Is a Book About a Girl Who Is the Oldest out of Her Six Siblings. Katy Loves Doing Dangerous St
Katy- by Jacqueline Wilson. Katy is a book about a girl who is the oldest out of her six siblings. Katy loves doing dangerous stuff such as: skateboarding, tree climbing and swinging as high as she can on the rope swing. One day a terrible accident happens, and this story is about her life. I think my friends would like this story because it's about a girl who is the same age as us about to start high school like we will be doing. She also goes through struggles like some 11 year olds would. I think Katy is a great book and would recommend it to my friends because it shows some struggles we will have to overcome during secondary school. It also shows you don't always have to have just one friend because soon Katy learns that she can have more friends than just Cecy Hall. I love this book! Bethany Wingate The Spy Who Loved School Dinners by Pamela Butchart When new girl Mathilde starts at school, Izzy and her friend soon realise something is not quite right. They tried to warn her about school dinners (aka poison) but she really loves them, and even has seconds. This is when they realise that Mathilde is a spy who has come to find out their secrets. They must stop her before it’s too late! This book is very exciting because it is full of adventure and surprise. I’ve tried to pick a favourite bit but I can’t because I loved all of it.

  • Year 5 Reading Leaflet
Research has shown that children who read regularly, and are frequently read to, will make significantly more progress than those who do not. We want all of our children to love reading and to read for pleasure. Reading with your child for as little as 10 minutes every day can make an enormous difference and, is there anything nicer than snuggling up with your child to enjoy a great story? Throughout the year we will be planning a range of exciting activities to promote reading. We are also very pleased to announce that we will have two Reading Champions this year! Our link with the poet Paul Cookson will continue and he will again be a regular feature in school. Alongside Paul as Reading Champion this year, we have Tom Palmer who will also be launching our World Cup topic in the summer. We are also pleased to have the fantastic Simon Bartram visiting Key stage 1 this November. In this booklet you will find lots of information and tip tips to help you support your child with their reading. We have included some suggestions of our favourite books from Year 5 over the next few pages and there are some fantastic reads on the list! So, when you can find a minute, pick one and enjoy it with them. Enjoy the information enclosed and thank you for your continued support. Happy reading Mr Hall Assistant Head/English Lead This year we have begun a project to increase our focus in supporting and developing children’s speaking and listening skills.
