FREEPORT — Alaqua Animal Refuge has officially partnered with The HOPE Project to offer equine assisted therapy to military veterans and service mem- bers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The partnership was a natural fit as both use rescue horses for hope, healing, and teaching. Alaqua’s Equine Interactions pro- gram was implemented six years ago, and has been used to help special needs children and adults with certain devel- opment needs to promote positive so- cial and life skills in a supportive set- ting. The program is a hands-on educa- tional approach that uses interaction and relationship development between horses and humans, in an environment of learning and self-discovery. Using the power of horses, the Equine Interactions program effectively heals individuals battling with a variety of physical or emotional issues, includ- ing PTSD. Unfortunately, suicide is one of the worst outcomes of PTSD, and mil- itary suicides have increased by as much as 20% this year compared to the previous year—especially in the COVID era with national disasters, deploy- ment, and civil unrest. “PTSD is trauma to the soul. If we ig- nore the soul, then we will not find the hope and healing we need to live,” said David Trogdon, Director of The Hope Project and Chaplain, LTC, U.S. Army Retired. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR ANOTHER VIEW One edition, so much evidence of Democratic failure

One paper, so much to comment on. To Clyde York. Great letter, unfortunately the appeal of free stuff to those too clueless as to the true cost of free is too strong. The article on Georgia turning purple. People mov- ing to the suburbs from out of state for jobs. Probably left blue states with high taxes, high cost of living, and no jobs, then go to Georgia and vote for they same pol- icies they ran from. Brilliant! The column by Chapman. Roosevelt signed 15 major pieces of legislation that drastically reshaped the gov- ernment. Absolutely correct. Created the big, bloated bureaucratic nightmare we have today. Strangely he neglected to mention that they had no effect on the great depression and later even members of the ad- ministration admitted they failed. In the early thirties the average family paid 3.9% of their income in taxes. Now the same family pays about 46% in taxes. Thanks Roosevelt and the Democrats. Poor Biden. I guess he has failed to notice the Democrats working with Trump so much the last four years. So the Republicans will re- fuse to work with Biden then fault him when nothing gets done? Could this be the year a rookie wins the Masters?

Adam Schupak Golfweek

AUGUSTA, Ga. - It’s one of the stone- cold locks of the Masters - rookies never win. The list is short - Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 and that’s it, unless you count Gene Sa- razen, who won the inaugural tourna- ment in 1934 when every contestant was a first-timer. But could this be the year that a rookie joins Zoeller as a Mas- ters debutante with a green jacket in their Champions locker for the rest of their career? Collin Morikawa and Mat- thew Wolff sure think so. Morikawa already has the Wanama- ker Trophy on his mantel for winning the PGA Championship in May. He’s the first Masters rookie to compete at Au- gusta National with a major trophy un- der his belt since Keegan Bradley in 2012. While experience counts for a lot at the Masters, Morikawa doesn’t see himself at a disadvantage. “I’ve never necessarily been intimi- dated by courses, and I think that’s what makes this a little, I wouldn’t say easy, but it makes it a little more com- fortable to show up to courses I’ve never been at, and just be ready to play golf, be Collin Morikawa hits his tee shot on the first hole during a practice round at the Masters on Wednesday in Augusta, Ga. ready to figure out how I’m going to play DAVID J. Plenty of reasons for NFL’s record-setting scoring pace

Passing has never been easier and defenses are overmatched on a weekly basis. Whether it was the virtual offseason that hampered defensive development, a lack of screaming fans to hinder road teams, rules changes that always seem to favor the offense or coaches willing to be more aggressive, NFL clubs are scor- ing at a record-setting pace in 2020.
