6 Introduction to Hunan

Hunan province is located in and has a population of around 65,000,000 people, approximately the same as that of the UK. The provincial capital is with a population of 7,500,000. Hunan’s climate is subtropical and the province is famed for the beauty of its natural landscapes, with the East ,West and South of the province bordered by hills and mountains. Agriculture remains a key industry, especially the cultivation of tea. More recently however, Hunan has become a centre for the production of steel, machinery and electronics. is one of the ‘Eight Great Treasures’ of Chinese cuisine, famed for it’s hot and spicy flavours and abundant fresh ingredients.

Educational institutions are located in city centres, towns, suburbs and rural areas. Most interns will be hosted by primary and middle schools, however, interns are allowed to express preference in terms of which type of educational institution and location they wish to be placed in. Interns can also request to be placed with any friends that are taking part in the programme.

Accommodation Once at the host institution interns will be housed in shared apartments with a private bedroom. Typically two interns are sent to each host institution and will therefore share an apartment, however, sometimes there may be three or just one intern. All apartments have:

Introduction to (HCU)

 HCU covers an area of 264 acres.  There are 1,207 teachers and working staff members in the university.  HCU has a full-time student population of over 16,500 and more than 6,500 adult education students from 30 provinces and municipalities in China.  There are 51 undergraduate majors including the subjects of science, engineering, management, education, art and economics.  HCU lays much emphasis on international cooperation and exchange.  HCU has been recruiting overseas students since 2007.  It has conducted academic communication and student exchanges with schools in Korea, Singapore, Britain, America, New Zealand and Ghana.

11 11 Introduction to Lushan International Experimental Primary School (LIEPSC)

 LIEPSC is a public school directly under the supervision of Changsha Education Bureau founded in September 1993.  It is a public boarding school with a primary, junior and senior school.  The campus covers an area of 40,000 square meters and has around 3000 students.  With a beautiful environment and advanced teaching facilities, the school has a well-equipped classroom building, multiple-use building, office building, rooms for teachers, library, gym, playground, cafeteria, radio and television station, and theater.  The curriculum structure contains compulsory courses, abundant extension courses and practical activity courses, integrating long and short lesson periods.  Currently there are a total of 20 school-based elective courses, such as calligraphy, physical training, art, traditional Chinese music, soccer, martial arts, cooking, chess and orienteering.

1. Complete the Internship Programme Application Form and provide a copy of your CV and a recent passport photograph to GTIC. Application forms can be downloaded from the internship webpage on our company website https://gtic.co.uk/internships.

2. Please scan and email all of the aforementioned documents to [email protected]

3. We will contact you via email to confirm receipt of your application and invite you to attend an interview with GTIC, either in person or via Skype.

4. If your application is successful we will email our Internship Programme Agreement to you and request your 500 GBP refundable deposit.

5. You will be invited to attend a pre-departure seminar with GTIC at your college / university (if available).

6. GTIC will assist you to apply for your F visa.

7. GTIC will arrange and book international and domestic flights for you.
