In our Gradstart program you will:

GradStart positions are completed over a 12 month period either full time or part time. Part time positions are to be negotiated and are to be a minimum of 0.84 full time equivalent.

You must ensure that the likely date of your AHPRA registration will be before your proposed start date.

Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) is the largest employer in the region, with over 7,700 dedicated staff working across 3 major rural referral hospitals, 50 community health centres, numerous corporate and executive offices and 38 inpatient facilities – which include 25 multipurpose services and 4 district health services.

Our organisation hosts the largest rural mental health service in Australia, three major rural referral hospitals in Orange, and Bathurst, 50 primary and community health centres, 38 inpatient facilities including 25 Multipurpose Services, and District Health Services at Mudgee, , Parkes and Forbes.

Our region has some of the most vulnerable population in NSW, and even Australia, who generally have a lower socio-economic status, shorter life expectancy, and poorer health outcomes than other people living in NSW.

make an impact Placement locations length and accommodation

Of the sites who offer accommodation, the type and availability varies. You will need to speak to the facility manager. Accommodation is charged at NSW Nurses’ Award rates (currently approx $70 per week for separate room or $86 per week for self-contained flat)

To arrange accommodation you will need to make contact with the Manager of the facility where you will be employed to determine availability and cost.

The rural exchange program provides applicants with the unique opportunity to experience health care through a diverse hospital environment.

An exchange position can only proceed if positions at matching sites are filled. While every effort will be made to recruit to the vacant matching position, if this is not successful, the applicant may remain at Western NSW LHD facility for 12 months.

Withdrawal from an exchange position is only allowed in exceptional circumstances, due to impact to the person in the matching position. Condobolin

Orientation Clinical Rotation

BATHURST The oldest inland settlement in Australia, Bathurst has a population of 37000, is rich with history and gold rush heritage, is the spiritual home of motorsports and has abundant natural beauty. Bathurst is 2.5 hours from .

DUBBO A large regional centre with a population of 38 000, Dubbo is home to Taronga Western Plains Zoo, a great outdoors lifestyle and our recently re- developed, state of the art 134 bed Hospital.

ORANGE & BLOOMFIELD Explore cool-climate wineries, taste local produce, shop till you drop, visit galleries and hike at Mount Canobolas – its all on offer in beautiful Orange, home to 42 000 people and a new referral hospital

PARKES Home to the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope and renowned Parkes Elvis Festival, Parkes has a population of 15 000 and is 1 hour from Orange. Parkes Hospital opened in 2015 and is a major district health service and procedural hospital.

FORBES Famous for its historical connections with the bushranger Ben Hall and its beautiful parks and gardens, Forbes (Population 10 000) is an important inland town. Forbes Hospital had a major refurbishment in 2016, much of the facility is newly renovated, making it a world-class and modern facility in which to work.

COWRA A town of 13000 people, Cowra is a prosperous rural service town and its role in World War ll is remembered with its stunning Japanese Gardens. Cowra Health Service is a procedural hospital.

MUDGEE Mudgee boasts an exciting and thriving food and wine region, boutique shopping, numerous dining options and over 40 family owned wineries. Mudgee Health Service is a procedural hospital refurbished in 2020, making it a modern and exciting place to work

COONAMBLE Coonamble, population 3000, has over a third of its residents identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. The town has a charming main street with huge old pubs, murals and a number of Art Deco buildings, and the area is known for its sheep and cattle farms.

LIGHTNING RIDGE An Iconic Australian town, Lightning Ridge (pop 2500) is the home of the black opal, outback theatre, underground sculptures, bore baths, galleries and jewellers.

NYNGAN Nyngan offers a relaxed country lifestyle with excellent recreational and sporting facilities, a good selection of entertainment and dining options and has a population of just over 3000 people. Nyngan MPS is one of our larger MPS with 42 beds.

WALGETT Walgett has both an older and higher proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population than the state average, making it an interesting and unique place to work. Walgett MPS has a brand new 24-hour ED opened in 2016, residential aged care, outpatient services including renal dialysis and primary and community health services.

BARADINE Baradine is an ideal place outdoor adventurers with the Pilliga Forest nearby where tourists come to enjoy bird watching and scenic forest drives. Baradine has a population of just under than 1000 people .

COLLARENEBRI Collarenebri, north western is situated on the beautiful Barwon River and boasts excellent fishing and water skiing. Supporting a population of 650, Collarenebri MPS is a 13 bed facility including ED, Ambulatory, Primary & Community and a GP practice.

CONDOBOLIN Condobolin is the largest centre in the Heart of NSW and is home to approx. 3,500 people. It's small enough to stay endearing and large enough to keep you entertained. Set on the banks of the Lachlan River, it's a great spot for fishing and water sports, plus has plenty of cultural heritage.

TOTTENHAM Tottenham has a population of 320, in a district 1,000 people. This small rural community enjoys a very relaxed lifestyle with friendly and supportive residents. The MPS has 10 beds which include Emergency, acute and residential aged care services.

TRUNDLE A classic Aussie country town, Trundle boasts New South Wales' widest main street, and the second longest wooden verandah in Australia next to the Trundle Hotel. The MPS is an 11 bed facility providing 24-hour emergency care, inpatient & outpatient services residential aged care and community health services.

TULLAMORE The town of Tullamore is best known for its incredibly popular Tullamore Irish Festival. Sheep and cattle grazing and crop production is the basis of the Tullamore economy. With a population of approximately 500 people, including the township and surrounding farms, there is a strong sense of community and mateship.

GRENFELL Grenfell is the birthplace of and steeped in history with much of its old world character maintained. Grenfell is two and a half hours’ drive to Canberra and the MPS is a 41-bed facility inpatient, residential aged care, 24-hour emergency, respite, ambulatory and primary and community health services.
