Howard Women’s Basketball (2-17, 2-4 MEAC) will look to break a three-game losing streak when the team hosts the Morgan State Lady Bears (6-12, 3-3 MEAC) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchup.
ALL-TIME SERIES Howard leads the all-time series, 49-16 and has won five of the past six meetings. Last season, the teams split their two matchups, with each team winning on the road - the Lady Bison in Baltimore (71-66, 1/4/14) and the Lady Bears in Washington, D.C. (59-58, 3/6/14).
LAST TIME OUT Despite a career effort from junior guard Imani Bailey, cold shooting and a thin bench plagued the Howard wom- en’s basketball team in a 61-53 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) loss to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wild- cats January 26 at Moore Gymnasium. Bailey finished with 15 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals. Her point total tied for the game high and also matched her career best, set as a freshman at George Washington on December 15, 2012. Bailey’s six assists match a career mark she’s achieved three times prior, the most recent coming against LIU Brooklyn on December 14, 2014. Her four steals tied her best effort from earlier in the season against LaSalle on November 22, 2014. Sophomore forward Sydni Johnson scored 14 points and added four rebounds and three steals while junior center TALE OF THE TAPE Victoria Gonzales chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, STATS HU MSU a pair of steals and a block. RECORD 2-16 / 2-3 6-12 / 3-3 ABOUT MORGAN STATE PPG 58.4 56.4 Morgan State recently had their three-game MEAC winning streak snapped by losing to Bethune-Cook- RPG 34.6 40.7 man on January 19. The Lady Bears are lead by APG 11.5 7.3 senior guard and 1,000 point scorer Tracey Carrington (18.6 PPG), freshman guard Zuri White (7.1 RPG) TO/GM 19.1 16.6 and freshman guard Braennan Farrar (2.7 APG). SPG 7.9 10.6 BPG 2.9 1.8 SYD THE KID Sydni Johnson has become one of the most consistent players that Howard has. Johnson has scored in double figures in five straight games and 11 of 15 contests. John- son has also led the Lady Bison in rebounding in four games, paces the team in FG percentage (.516), is second on the team in rebounds (5.3), blocks (0.7) and FT percentage (.814).
TOP FIVE The Lady Bison currently sit in the top five of the MEAC in FT % (.680, 5th), assists (11.5/gm, 5th) and Blocks (2.9/gm, 5th).
THIS TIME LAST YEAR ...throught 19 games, Howard had a record of 8-11 (4-2 MEAC).
ADAMS ERA: YEAR TWO Second-Year Head Coach Tennille Adams will look to build on the positives of last season’s 11-20 campaign (6-10 MEAC), primarily the development of the players she inherited. Junior post Victoria Gonzales, for example, in- creased her scoring average from 2.3 PPG in limited action as a freshman in 2012-13 to 11.1 PPG under Adams in 2013-14. Adams can also hang her hat on redshirt sophomore guard Te’Shya Heslip being named to the Mid-East- ern Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team and for the Lady Bison winning a MEAC Tournament contest (74-59 vs North Carolina Central) and for several players winning MEAC Weekly honors (Heslip, Gonzales and sophomore forward Sydni Johnson).
MEAC PREDICTIONS Howard was picked to finish fifth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, behind Coppin State, Savannah State, Hampton, and preseason champion choice North Carolina A&T. Te’Shya Heslip & Victoria Gonzales were named Second Team Preseason All-MEAC selections.

3 HOWARD WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 2014-15: GAME 20 VS MORGAN STATE HEAD COACH TENNILLE ADAMS Head Coach Tennille Adams is in her second season at the helm of the Howard Uni- versity Women’s Basketball team. Adams guided the Lady Bison to an 11-20 overall record in 2013-14, including a 6-20 mark in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition and a victory in the 2014 MEAC Tournament that advanced the team into the Quarterfinals. Under Adams’ watch, guard Te’Shya Heslip earned MEAC All-Rookie Team honors as a redshirt freshman and three players earned MEAC Weekly Awards in 2013-14 (Heslip, Sydni Johnson - Rookie of the Week; Victoria Gonzales - Defensive Player of the Week).
Adams came to Howard after spending five seasons under the direction of head wom- en’s basketball coach Joe McKeown at Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, Adams was named defensive coordinator (2012-13) and offensive coordinator (2011-12) while being instrumental in Northwestern’s 10th best turnaround season (2009; ranked fourth among BCS schools), back-to-back WNIT appearances (2009-10 and 2010-11), and the development of two First Team All-Big Ten student-athletes, one Third Team All- Big Ten student-athlete, and one Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection.
No stranger to the District of Columbia, Adams was the assistant women’s basketball coach at American University. Adams was responsible for recruiting as well as key involvement on post player development and the point person for academic affairs and external relations with the basketball program.
Prior to her stint at American, Adams spent two years with the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University as an assistant to the legendary Patricia Cage-Bibbs, Adams established her administrative foundation. Adams, a standout at the University of Arkansas, began her coaching career in 2004 as an assistant at Lon Morris Junior College in Jacksonville, Texas.
As a student-athlete at Arkansas, Adams was a member of the 1997-98 Final Four team and the 1998-99 WNIT Championship team. On an individual level, Adams was ranked in the top five post players in the nation and as one of the top 50 seniors by Blue Star. Adams completed her matriculation with a bachelor’s of art in English.
Adams will inherit a program with strong reputation of winning, including three consecutive championship game appearances, two invitations to the WNIT (2011 and 2012), the first-ever Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) appearance (2013), and two 20+ wins seasons.
