Provision of Additional Materials: The distribution of story books continues as 60,000 sets of books are currently being printed. The following materials are in print: 180,000 copies of ECD Story books in English, Shona and Ndebele; 60,000 copies of My Story Workbook; 60,000 copies of Guidance notes for parents – ECD Book; 60,000 copies of Guidance notes for parents – My Story. SMS to head teachers were sent with instructions on distribution of story books and PSS workbook. 55 out of 74 responded with 46 received the books and 9 haven’t. 17 collected information on parents. Children's story books are now uploaded in the UNICEF Internet of Good Things (IoGT). All storybooks can be accessed via the mobile site of "Internet of Good Things" https://zw.goodinternet.org/sections/storybooks/ . In addition to story books, UNICEF plans to print Non-Formal Education Modules for distribution as supplementary materials in select schools. Plans are underway to finalize the Non-Formal Education modules for uploading onto digital platform. Various modules are at different stages of development. 2. The Back to School/Back to Learning Technical Working Group: Preparatory work for Back to School, thus the finalization of guidelines is at an advanced stage as they await endorsement from the MoPSE. Schools are pencilled to open starting from the 28th of July 2020 in a phased fashion. The Permanent Secretary in the MoPSE launched the school readiness meetings and exhibition and it was evident that a lot of preparation work is happening in schools. Different advocacy initiatives will be organized to ensure that children with disabilities are adequately covered by the current ongoing distance learning modes. Trainings on health, Psycho-Social Support and other issues to help prepare for schools opening are being planned by the TWG. Monitoring framework template to be used by teachers and education officers was reviewed and is currently being polished. The development of the PSS manual for COVID-19 will commence this week with aid form FOST. The Standard Operating Procedures are now at an advanced stage within the MoPSE. Save the Children responded to expression of interest where it is proposed to support distant learning at Tongogara for its around 3000 learners. The initiatives are through the use of mirror servers from microcomputers. It is hoped that this initiative could be cascaded to other places if successfully piloted. 3. The School Feeding Technical Working Group The draft Training Manual for The Food Handlers has been reviewed and finalized and now awaits the insertion of pictures and illustrations. These incorporate COVID-19 guidelines. In addition, a draft strategy for school feeding guidelines has been developed and was shared with the cluster secretariat. 4.The IEC Materials Technical Working Group: a) Development and Printing of IEC Materials: World Vision participated in the development of the School Health Alert English posters (4) and printed and distributed 12 000 posters to , Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo, Mashonaland Central and Mashonaland East (3098 schools). The poster targeted school pupils. Distributions continuing this week in Mash − The Cluster secretariat to East and Central. Translations in Ndebele, Xhosa, Nambiya and Tonga were done and have been share the School feeding sent to the designer. Posters on effective handwashing steps during COVID 19 pandemic, how to wear and manage face masks for prevention of COVID 19 and key moments for handwashing are currently being developed. Still waiting for posters which are supposed to be printed by UNICEF (5000 copies of each of the 4 posters). TV & Radio messages have been reviewed and approved by MoPSE. The TWG intended to disseminate Short Messages Services (SMS) on COVID 19 to Teachers, School development Committee (SDC) and Care- givers, however phone numbers for teachers and SDC members are proving difficult to access. Teachers’ Unions which were supposed to provide the data on their members’ cell numbers are sceptical to provide the data. b) Coordination of IEC material and Communication needs for Alternative Education, School Feeding and Back to School). The Back to School TWG requested for IEC on how to use and manage face masks and effective handwashing. The Terms of reference for engaging consultant artist/ graphic − Technical Working Group designers for the posters have been developed. Haven’t received input from other TWGs for their Leaders to indicate what IEC radio and TV IEC needs. Other technical working groups are requested to send their IEC needs so materials they need from the that materials can be developed. IEC Technical Working Group Update from Permanent Secretary- The permanent secretary emphasized the need for partners to report factual events. In this regard partners have to make full updates as to Who is doing what and where. This helps for partner visibility and more importantly to enable the back to school pillar. HRP and COVID-19 − HRP: There is a new phenomenon in relation to the funding requested for the COVID-19 − Partners are requested to Funding Updates Addendum thus the issue of returnees. Projects developed along with the Addendum for the update their financial response to COVID-19 did not happen at a time where we had returnees. In that regard OCHA information on Financial requested for an Inter sectoral Project to be developed around the returnees. Each cluster is Tracking Services (FTS) or requested to revisit their project and revise funding downwards so that it can accommodate the forward the funding figures new Inter Sectoral project. Information − The Education cluster develops biweekly Situational Update addressing key response activities, Management needs, gaps and coordination for both the HRP and COVID-19, to enhance coordination and Updates improve our cluster advocacy messaging. Partners are requested to share a summary of three or four lines of information updates by COB 24 June 2020. − The Cluster organized an information management training on Thursday 18th June 2020 focusing on new and existing partners towards 5Ws monitoring. 25 people from 15 organizations attended the training. The cluster will occasionally organize the trainings to support partners in reporting of implemented activities. − Partners are encouraged to continuously check the Education Cluster Humanitarian Response page which provides regular updates on cluster related activities, meeting, meeting minutes, reports and currently a thematic section for the COVID-19 Response. The webpage can be accessed using the following link: ZIM Education Cluster Humanitarian Response Webpage Any Other Business Update on the Parliamentary Sub- Committee on Education. − The Education Cluster strategy will be shared soon with partners for comments. − Partners are encouraged to report on the humanitarian situations outside COVID-19 as this is essential to update the Permanent Secretary. − Disaster Risk Reduction Resilience Plan: An International Consultant was recruited to come up with DRR plan to be used to integrate DRR within the school system. The inception report was shared with the Sub- Committee. Planning on conducting key informant interviews and individuals interested should join the group through Dominic Muntanga on [email protected]. − Internal discussions within UNICEF are currently ongoing on the water situation in schools. WASH team from UNICEF will assist to come up with minimum guidelines for WASH in schools.
