GRANT FUNDING APPLICATION FORM

OVERVIEW

Brief overview of application:

Community events like this are an important part of the annual calendar. Last year preparations were halted and the event cancelled due to the Covid 19 restrictions. We cannot be certain about this year but we proceed with optimism and anticipation of some restrictions and higher costs to comply with whatever the rules prove to be on the staging day.

In 2019 it cost £9,760.16 to stage the event.

£5,310.16 was raised by the organising group via the community and sponsorship.

£4,450.00 was provided as a grant by Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council (thank you).

We are very reliant on the bucket collection on the day. Numbers attending is very reliant on the weather.

We try very hard to make this a community event, funded as much as is possible by the community. It is not possible to run this event without your support. It is attended by a large percentage of the local population, providing them with a low cost day of entertainment. If 6,500 local people attend through the day (seven hours) then the grant sum is 68p per head.

We must expect the running costs to increase again this year. We may have to have back up requirements that are then unused like supplies of face masks and cleaning stations. We will have to pay for services where no sponsorship can be found or volunteers have proved hard to find or unsuitable for the task.

The growth in the size of the festival and what it can deliver is determined by our estimation of likely funding (we cannot over stretch and must be able to survive a wash out). We have sought small incremental expansion. The festival can be an important tool for many and we seek mutually beneficial partnerships.

If you have not attended the event it is a very large street festival covering the whole of central Fenny Stratford with free entertainment, street stalls and fairground rides. Past years have been very successful.

We invite BFSTC to use the event in whichever way it can and to enhance your profile with the local community.

1 What is the purpose of your activity/project? Continue on separate sheet if required

To enhance community cohesion and pride through a free event that all can attend.

Additionally the event provides an important date in the calender for the fund raising of local groups and charities.

The Fenny Festival Community Group seeks the following and believes the festival provides a significant tool and opportunity. It is possibly the only annual event that facilitates as many objectives at one time in a cost effective manner. We hope BFSTC will use the event again this year to assist in meeting your statement of Purpose, Aims and Objectives. a) It delivers a service / project that improves the area and community. b) It facilitates the work of other local groups who make a positive difference to the local area and community. c) It provides engagement with the community to help better understand the wants and needs of the community enhancing the engagement process through a very public accessibility medium. d) Allows co-operative engagement with and assessment of other local community groups which helps develop the planning, and strategy of engagement with other service providers. e) Through engagement our influence with other service providers is strengthened.

2 How will it benefit the community? Continue on a separate sheet if required

Beyond the objective and aims detailed above the festival benefits the community in many ways that are difficult to quantify as they will vary by individual, organisation or business.

Individuals – A day of entertainment at low cost. Locals enjoy the event that they see as generating a positive image of Fenny Stratford and Bletchley. Individual cash donations in 2019 of £871.00 on the day to help fund the festival demonstrates this.

Organisations – Local groups use the day to increase their profile and to fund raise. It is a chance for community groups to make their activities known.

Businesses – A chance to advertise themselves to a street full of people and to enhance Fenny Stratford (and Bletchley) as a destination.

3 What is the start date of your project? The event day is Sunday 15 th August

4 Total cost of project £11,600.00 (best guess). £6,250.00 raised from the community in 2019

5 Have you applied for funding from other sources? If yes give details

Yes. We secure considerable sponsorship and support from local businesses and the community. This is a local event attended in the majority, but not exclusively, by local people. Answer 6 provides more details.

6 Have you been able to secure any support from volunteers to assist with the project or goods or sponsorship from other organisations? If yes give details

Yes. In 2019 £5,310.16 of the £9,760.16 event staging costs were supplied by local businesses, the community or event income. Twelve months ago we provided accounts for detail but in summary we received £1,021.00 as cash donations and just over £1,000.00 of required items were covered by local businesses. With the exception of the event co-ordinator who receives some reimbursement all labour costs last year were covered by volunteers or supporting business / organisations.

The event is principally run by volunteers (more always needed – see www.fennyfestival.org.uk).

7 Break down of costs. Items required/quotes etc. Cost

Please see the appended accounts showing costs in 2019 We will be returning to the same suppliers / providers

8 If the funding applied for is not the total cost of the project how will the remainder required be funded?

Based on figures for 2019 then 55% of the cost will be raised from the local community and local businesses.
