TODAY’S GAME STARS at SABRES • This is the first of two meetings between the Sabres and Stars this season. • Next meeting: Saturday, Nov. 21 in Dallas • Last meeting: Dallas defeated Buffalo, 4-3, in Dallas on March 23 • The Sabres are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games vs. the Stars; 7-2-1 at home. • This is the 117th game all-time between Buffalo and Dallas; Buffalo has a 55-44-17 series record. • The Sabres are 32-14-11 at home against the Stars all-time.

THIS DAY IN SABRES HISTORY • The Sabres are 7-10-2 all-time on November 17. • November 17, 1979: John Gould scores twice and Don Edwards stops 35 shots as the Sabres top the North Stars, 4-2, to pass Minnesota in the standings and move to second in the Adams Division. • November 17, 2005: Taylor Pyatt scores a hat trick in Buffalo’s 8-5 home win over Washington.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW • The Sabres enter tonight’s game on their first four-game points streak (3-0-1) since the team won four in a row from Dec. 9 to 15, 2014. They will look to extend the streak to five games for the first time since the team put together a nine-game point streak (7-0-2) from March 10 to 27, 2012. • Buffalo will look to extend its home point streak to three games for the first time since the team won six consecutive home games from Nov. 28 to Dec. 15, 2014. • The Sabres have gone 9-2-1 (one tie) in their last 12 home games against the Stars. • Ryan O’Reilly (21:30) led all NHL forwards in ice time per game before Monday’s games.

HOT AGAINST DALLAS • Matt Moulson has 14 points (8+6) in his last nine games against the Stars dating back to Jan. 8 2010, including at least a point in each of his five. • David Legwand has 13 points (4+9) in his last 13 games against Dallas dating back to Feb. 26, 2011. • Tyler Ennis has points in each of his last four games against the Stars, totaling six points (3+3) in those four games. • Ryan O’Reilly has at least a point in each of his last three games against Dallas, totaling four points (1+3).

SEE YOU SOON The Sabres and Stars will meet again in four days in Dallas. For the Sabres, this is the third of eight sets of games this season in which they’ll face the same opponent both home and away in a three-game span; two of these are home-and-home series. The next such set will take place on Nov. 19 and 23 against St. Louis.

FINNISHING TOUCH • With a point tonight, Rasmus Ristolainen would extend his career-best four-game point streak (3+3) to five games. With a point tonight, Ristolainen would be the first Sabres defensemen to tally a point in five straight team games since Andrej Sekera logged five consecutive two-point games from Feb. 26 to March 6, 2011 (2+8). • Entering play Monday, Ristolainen was tied for fifth among NHL defensemen with four goals and tied for second among NHL defensemen with four multi-point games this season. No Sabres defenseman has finished a season with five or more multi-point games since Christian Ehrhoff (six) in 2011-12.

JOHNNY ON THE SPOT Chad Johnson had stopped 70 consecutive shots at even strength before allowing Patrick Marleau’s goal on Saturday at three-on-three. Johnson still has not allowed a five-on-five goal in his last 191:51 of ice time (all situations), including 156:47 played at five-on-five.
