The cover picture shows some of the children who came to look at our conservation areas during a recent outing from Wrangle School. Forty- two pupils and ten adults enjoyed looking round and learning about

the trees, plants and wildlife that abound on our farm. A keen interest was shown in the prolific numbers of very small toads, and the variety of damsel flies and butterflies. It was quite entertaining to see the cows’ and calves’ reactions to a chorus of ‘mooing’ from the younger

children. The exercise was very rewarding and the pupils’ politeness and behaviour was exceptional.

Lockdown restrictions are due to end next week, though I wonder if

this is too soon in view of the rising number of infections. At the same time the Olympics in Japan are imminent, is this really a good Idea?

We didn’t quite win Euro 2020, but our lads did amazingly well. The

future looks promising for the football team.

Some years, when we get to this time, there is a shortage of grass for

the cattle, but this year there is more grass than they can keep pace with. We have topped all the fields to keep them short, and to kerb any thistles and ragworts. There are plenty of meadow pipits and skylarks.

Vegetable crops are growing well in the ideal conditions, as too are the weeds, but we haven’t got them all! George Danby

Main Road Memories

It’s just another Main Road in the grand scheme of things but the Main Road in Wrangle many happy memories brings!

‘Elmscroft Hall held dances; known locally as ‘Sammy’s Hut’. Couples glided serenely around; others hopped painfully, holding their foot!

Wrangle School and chapel anniversaries are more memories held dear. ‘Trikes, bikes, skipping games with friends; less traffic, so nothing to fear!

Who would have thought, in those by-gone years, the ‘Olympic Torch’ would one day pass by, to lots of Wrangle cheers!

Wrangle Recreation Field and Wrangle Show, with its massive, inviting ‘tent’. We’ve missed it this year, thanks to Covid but next year will be an epic event!

Main Road memories are precious, ‘though busier, it’s special still. I grow roses along my fence there - in memory of ‘Grandad Bill’…

Apologies were accepted from Cllrs Pickett, Bowles and Seymour

Also present: County Cllr Skinner

Declarations of Interest There were no declarations of interest.

Approve minutes of the meeting held on 01 June 2021 The notes, previously circulated, were approved as the minutes and signed by the Chairman following one amendment.

Receive reports from representatives on outside bodies The PCSO reported, by email, incidents to 27 May: 1 traffic offence at Main Road; 1 suspicious circumstance at Lockhamgate; 3 concerns for safety at Common Road, Broadgate and Brick Lane and 1 road traffic collision at Main Road

The Borough Councillors were not present

County Cllr Skinner reported: The Mayor has attended his first event, the launching of the buoys in Boston. The buoys had been on the docks for ten to fifteen years. The alliance with ELDC is now considering sharing the Chief Executive with South Holland to help keep local democracy strong. The Town Deal has £21.9m with £23m match funding to improve the town. £20m ‘levelling up’ funding has been applied for, this is to improve the road from the port at Boston to Spalding to help establish the use of the docks for importing and exporting food. Links are already in place with Rotterdam. LCC are currently carrying out surface dressing in some areas. The facility in Boston where waste will be burned to produce electricity is moving into the next stage of consultation. Waste will be delivered to the site via the river and a distributer road is being looked into for Marsh Lane.

Recreation Field The Chairman will flail the dyke. Boston Borough Council will put signage on the pavilion with regard to the recycling area and new dog fouling signage.

Glass can be mixed in the glass banks when the required one is full.

Fly-tipping should be reported to the Borough Council on 01205 314200

Dog fouling is still an issue including on the football pitch The recreation field is for the use of everyone DOG FOULING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE

Audit for the year ended 31 March 2021 The Audit paperwork is in the village notice boards and on the Parish Council website, as required. The Annual Governance Accounts Return have been sent to the External Auditor before 30 June, as required.

Cont…..

Information from the Road Safety Partnership An email has been received stating that some residents do not want the LRSP speed check van at Main Road. The Parish Council do not agree with this and will ask that the speed checks are still carried out when the van is available. Residents have requested average speed check cameras for Wrangle. Unfortunately this is not possible due to the number of speed changes between the camera in Wrangle and the next one at Leverton. The average speed checks at Butterwick and at Hubberts Bridge is in place where two existing cameras have been replaced and there are no changes in the speed limit.

Report highways issues via the: ‘fixmystreet’ app from your mobile phone Photos of the defects can be taken and sent with the report

Local issues regarding water pressure in the village No reply has been received from Anglian Water regarding this issue.

Plans received The Parish Council have no objections to the following planning application, although the site is next to an existing blacksmiths where additional noise and traffic can be generated: B/21/0262 - Midgate Properties Ltd - Outline application with all matters reserved (access, appearance, landscaping, layout and scale) for the erection of 1 two storey dwelling at Land adjacent to Knebworth,Church End

Planning decisions B/21/0194 - Shane Stengal Constuction - Proposed front and rear extension and remodelling of existing bungalow at The Bungalow, Main Road - GRANT

Platinum Jubilee celebrations 2022 An email has been received offering to organise an event, the same as in 2012, this is a generous offer and will be accepted. Volunteers will be sought via social media and the parish magazine. (Please check the Wrangle Community Facebook page for information as it becomes available.) Help will be required with equipment and labour, as well as financially to put on a good event again.

A beacon will be lit at 9.15pm on 02 June 2022 – full details will confirmed nearer the day. A beacon can be a basket on a post with a gas burner, sited somewhere in the village, or a ‘bonfire’ that is burned at the set time – perhaps in a field where everyone can view it safely. It was resolved to get some quotes for a basket style beacon. The site is to be agreed should the purchase go ahead.

Wrangle Maps Maps of Wrangle are available to purchase at a cost of £5.00 each. If you would like a Wrangle map please contact the Parish Council Clerk by email or by phone. The maps are also available at the Church.

Date and time of next meeting The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 07 September 2021 at 7.30pm with a Public Forum from 7.15pm – venue to be approved nearer the date.

Boston Guildhall Built in the 1390's, this building is a testament to the wealth and influence of the Guild of St Mary at a time when Boston's power as a centre of trade was second only to London. This wonderfully preserved building, with a wealth of original features, has survived the centuries and is to be enjoyed as one of Boston's finest visitor attractions. A wealth of stories, secrets and experiences are told and shared throughout the building including the history of the Guild of St Mary, international trade with the Hanseatic League, Henry VIII dissolve of the Guild, the foundation of the Corporation of Boston and the very famous trial and imprisonment of the Pilgrim Fathers. The Guildhall is also home to the town’s museum collection where displays and exhibitions bring life to the stories told, and a stunning venue for civil ceremonies and private functions.
