Medicare Enrollment Starts – Attention, everyone on Medicare: If you want to change your Medicare coverage for 2019-2020. Open enrollment now runs from October 15th to December 7th. 1) Open enrollment gives the chance to switch to another part D prescription drug plan, or to another Medicare Advantage plan, or from traditional Medicare to Medicare Advantage plan and vice versa. You can get help with Senior Benefits at the Grinton I. Will Library, 1500 Central , Yonkers, 10710. Tuesdays 10 AM – 1 PM, Thursday 11 AM – 3 PM in the mezzanine. Call 914-771-9616 2) During this period you can compare the costs and benefits of your current coverage with other plans on Medicare’s website at www.medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-633-4227. If you change plans by December 15th, your new coverage begins January 1st. If you don’t change, your current coverage will likely continue through 2020. AARP 55 Alive Driving Course Registration – Call 914-582-2070 for more information and to register. Classroom course fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Visit www.aarp.org/drive. Participants do not have to be 55+ years old to take the course which gives a 10% discount on auto insurance for 3 years and you may be eligible to reduce 4 points on your driving record. EXTENDED AND LOCAL TUESDAY TRIPS

Tuesdays are designated for extended and local trips. Local trips will leave from the Girl Scout House and are by school bus. Wear comfortable shoes and be at the proper destination 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Extended trips will use either a van or a school bus depending on the length of the trip.

The trip activity code ranges from 1 – 4 with 1 being little walking, bus drops close to the event; whereas 2 indicates moderate; 3 is substantial walking with no rest places and 4 includes lots of walking and stairs. Please review the criteria and your own skill level before you sign up for a trip. If on-going assistance is required, it will be necessary for you to arrange for a companion or aide to attend the trip with you. Be sure your medical form is on file with your doctor’s signature.

Please make sure to check with Parks & Recreation Department and/or the monthly newsletter for updates. Changes do occasionally happen. Please arrive 15 minutes before trips as all trips leave promptly. You are registered when we receive your payment. Only club members may reserve a space. Non-members can go on a waiting list with an extra charge of $5. All participants must supply an emergency contact phone number and have submitted an emergency information form signed by your doctor. You can pick up a form at the Recreation Department in the Village Hall – or call and it will be mailed to you.

Refunds for trips will not be granted unless the spot can be filled from the waiting list. If your spot can be filled, $10 or 10% of the trip fee (whichever is higher) will be charged for processing the refund. Full refunds for a medical reason will be granted before the trip when accompanied by a doctor’s note.

Hudson Yards is the most recent residential and commercial development on the West Side located between 10th and 12th Avenues from West 30th to West . You may have heard of the Vessel, the Shed, Snark Park, the Edge and the Highline along with a myriad of restaurants and shops. Hudson Yards has changed the city’s iconic skyline as the nation’s largest private development and one of the most complex construction projects in the history of New York. It would be advisable to google Hudson Yards and read up on it before you register for the trip. Lunch on your own. Members $14.00, Non-members $19. Code 3-4.

Tuesday, October 22, 8:45am; (EXTENDED TRIP) Staatsburgh State Historic Site: “Tales of the Titanic”

Staatsburgh’s owners, Ruth and , had tickets to sail on the Titanic’s scheduled second trip. When the ship went down, the Millses lost many of their high society friends including Ruth Mills’ cousin, John Jacob Astor, the richest man to perish in the tragedy. Your tour will show how rooms in Staatsburgh resemble the first-class accommodations on the Titanic. This is the closest you can get to tour the Titanic without submerging in a submarine. The liner was designed to mirror the luxury that first class passengers expected. Stories told about those unfortunate millionaires by our costumed guide will further enhance your visit. The afternoon will be spent in picturesque Rhinebeck with time for lunch on your own and strolling. Transportation by van limited to 10 people. Bring $8 cash for admission. Tuesday, October 29rd, 8:45am; (LOCAL TRIP) Harlem Architecture Tour.

Taste Harlem Food and Cultural tours explores one of NYC’s most famous neighborhood including theater, religious and residential architecture. The two-hour tour will be led by a Harlem based practicing architect and/ or a scholar in architectural history. Harlem has been home to famous names, synagogues and theaters. An important slice of Harlem’s culture can be gained by navigating its wide streets and viewing its magnificent architecture dating back to the 19th century. Dutch paintings of the seventeenth century – the Golden Age of Rembrandt, Hals, and Vermeer – have been a highlight of The Met collection since the Museum’s founding purchase in 1871. This exhibition brings together some of the Museum’s greatest paintings to present this remarkable chapter of art history in a new light. Through sixty-seven works of art organized thematically. In Praise of Painting orients visitors to key issues in seventeenth-century Dutch culture- from debates about religion and conspicuous consumption to painters’ fascination with the domestic lives of women. Accompanied by Audio Guide. If there is extra time you may enjoy other exhibition that are current such as Jewelry for America and Another World lies Beyond Chinese Art and the Divine. Tuesday, November 19th, 9:30 am; (EXTENDED TRIP) Museum of Jewish Heritage, “Auschwitz, Not Long Ago, Not Far Away”.

Is the largest exhibition on Auschwitz in North America. More than 700 original objects are shown in the traveling exhibition about Auschwitz. The Major focal point is a vintage German Train car like those used to transport men, women and children to Nazi death camps. Auschwitz was once an ordinary Polish town called Oswiecion that the Nazis occupied and transformed into a human monstrosity. Tickets have to be purchased 2 weeks before the trip to have a trained Gallery Educator lead a structured program for seniors at $20.50 each starting at 2PM therefore the dead line to register is November 5th. We will have lunch first where you can eat either at the Kosher Café in the museum or the Oyster House on Pier A, 22 Battery Place which opens at 11:00 AM and is in walking distance from the museum. If it is a nice day you could bring lunch and eat outside. Transportation will be by Van with a limit of 10 persons @ $25 each. Members $45, non- members $50. Code 3.

TRANSPORTATION: Taxi service (one-way) is available for local medical/dental visits, with one week advance notice for Scarsdale Senior resident members only. Don’t forget the Para-transit Bus, 995-7272, for Westchester seniors not able to use the regular bus, $5.00 door to door, any day, anywhere in Westchester.
