IMPORTANT STADIUM IN INDIA 1. Narendra Modi Stadium- Ahmedabad It came into being in 1983. It is a cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This stadium is the largest cricket stadium in India and World. It comes under the Gujarat Cricket Association. It is famous for the Namaste Trump event which took place for US President Donald Trump in February 2020. Major cricket matches including Cricket World Cup 1987, 1996, and 2011 took place here. 2. Eden Gardens-Kolkata It came into existence in 1864 and is the oldest cricket stadium in India. It is in Kolkata, West Bengal. This stadium comes under the Cricket Association of Bengal. It is famous for hosting Cricket World Cup matches including ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup for many years. The first-ever day/night test match in India took place here in November 2019. It is also the second-largest stadium in India. 3. Wankhede Stadium-Mumbai It came into being in 1975 and is one of the prominent stadiums in the World. It is in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This stadium comes under Mumbai Cricket Association. Many high profile cricket matches are played here including World Cups, ODI, and Test Matches. But it is mainly famous for the 2011 World Cup where India won against Sri Lanka. India then became the only country to win this tournament on home soil. 4. D Y Patil Stadium-Navi Mumbai It came into being in 2008 and is in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is technically a football ground but many IPL matches are played here. This stadium comes under Dr. D. Y. Patil Sports Academy. Many popular tournaments including ODI, Test Matches and FIFA World Cup took place here. It is also famous for hosting Justin Bieber’s Purpose Tour Concert and One Plus Music Festival in India. 5. Netaji Indoor Stadium-Kolkata It came into being in 1975 and serves a multi-purpose stadium. This stadium is in Kolkata, Bengal. It comes under the Governor of West Bengal. Events like the Sunfeast Open, a WTA Tour tennis tournament, and 1981 Asian Basketball Championship took place here. It is also the centre for counting votes during state elections. 6. MA Chidambaram Stadium-Chennai This Cricket Stadium came into being in 1916 and is the second oldest stadium in India. It is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and comes under Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. Tournaments like ODI, Test Matches, and T20 take place here quite regularly. It is mainly famous for hosting the first-ever Ranji Trophy match in 1936. 7. Sawai Mansingh Stadium-Jaipur It came into being in 1969 and serves as a cricket stadium. It is in Jaipur, Rajasthan and comes under Rajasthan Cricket Association. Tournaments like 1987 & 1996 Cricket World Cup, 2006 Women’s Asia Cup, and 2006 ICC Champions Trophy took place here. It is mainly famous for the 1987 Test Match between India and Pakistan. 8. Kalinga Stadium-Bhubneshwar It came into being in 1978 and serves as one of the largest multipurpose stadiums in India. It is in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and comes under the Government of Odisha. This stadium has seen many international events including Asian Athletics Championships, Women’s Gold Football Cup, 2020 Men’s FIH Pro League, Men’s Hockey World Cup’ 18, Asia Rugby Women Championship, and India F1 Futures’ 18. 9. Kari Motors Speedway- It came into being in 2003 and is one of the longest racing tracks in India. It is in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and comes under the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. Major events like JK Tyre National Racing Championship, Indian Touring Car National Championship, MRF Formula 1600 Series, Formula LGB, and Volkswagen Vento Cup took place here. But it is mainly famous for hosting FFS India 2017. 10. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Delhi It came into being in 1982 and serves as the primary venue for Football and Athletic events. It is in Delhi, NCR region, and comes under the Sports Authority of India. This stadium was the main venue for Commonwealth Games 2010 and the All Asian Athletics Championship. Other events like the 2011 South Asian Football Federation Cup, The 2011 SAFF Cup, and Nehru Cup 2010 took place here. Public Information Officer, Odisha Olympic Association, Barabati Stadium, Dist- Cuttack.............................................……………...…Opposite Party Decision The complainant named above has filed the present complaint under section 18 of the Right to Information Act,2005, for short “the Act”, seeking for a declaration that the Opposite Party Association is a public authority within the definition under section 2(h) of the Act, and for a direction to the opposite party to comply with the provisions of the Act, interalia, by appointing a Public Information Officer and making suo-motu disclosure of information under section 4(1)(b) and (c) of the Act. 2. The assertion of the complainant that the opposite party is a public servant, is primarily based upon the following grounds; (i) The opposite party is a sports body with the object of promoting sports in the State and to send competitors to national events. (ii) The opposite party is operating a stadium namely “Barabati Stadium” at Cuttack, Odisha on government land measuring an area of more that 20 acres on the basis of a lease deed executed on 04/09/1949 on a nominal annual rate of 1 rupee only, although the value of the said land estimated at minimum rate of Rs. 12.50 Crore per acre was Rs. 262 Crore as on the date of the complaint petition. This grant of lease signifies the indirect funding by the State Government in favour of the opposite party.
