The RSVP stations report an average of 500 hours every working day of the year for our 620 active volunteers. RSVP volunteers work with agencies serving the young and old, men and women, the healthy and infirmed. They work with hospitals, nursing homes and health care agencies. RSVP volunteers work with congregate meal programs and home delivered meals programs. RSVP volunteers provide tutoring and teacher assistance working with pre-schools. Elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and adult basic education. RSVP volunteers work in libraries, museums, RD cross, police departments and sheriff=s offices. They provide escort service, shopping assistance, telephone reassurance, friendly visiting, meal on wheels delivery, medical transportation, and individual counseling such as balancing checkbooks, filing and explaining insurance claims. RSVP volunteers serve in several heartwarming projects including volunteer favorite Project Linus making afghans, quilts and baby blankets for seriously ill hospitalized children. A new project is making bibs, walker pouches and wheelchair pouches for area nursing home residents. With a Programs For National Significance (PNS) grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service we have formed new partnerships with Red Cross - Hancock County Unit, Hancock County Health Department, Memorial Hospital, Hancock County Emergency Services Disaster Agency (ESDA), The Hancock Cou ty Sheriff=s Office and local Police Departments in Hancock County. We are holding community forums on issues related to disaster planning, preparedness and mitigation. We are providing recruitment strategies for the agencies to help identify and place new volunteers in newly identified positions meeting the greatest need for each agency and we are working to create Neighborhood Watch programs in several local communities as requested by our local ESDA.
