Year 10 Financial Awareness day – NYBEP will be delivering a full day 24/01/18 , 14-15 Business Adviser of activities aimed at providing students with opportunities to develop 10:00 – 15:30 their financial awareness as well as their employability skills on the day employers are invited to support the Trading Game – a fast paced, interactive game themed on the Stock Market. Employers are invited to support The Trading Pit on the day and to encourage students taking part to make as much money as they can to win the Game! NYBEP are hosting The Big Meet – Employers are invited to attend our 25/01/18 The Yorkshire Air Employers Networking Museum, Elvington first Big Meet of this academic year. The aim of the meeting is to 11:30-13:00 introduce employers and partners to our Successful Futures Programme. Successful Futures is a year round programme of activity that supports schools with STEM, Careers and Enterprise designed to build long lasting partnerships between employers and schools. Successful Futures makes it easy for employers to engage with young people to ultimately develop/inform the future skills pipeline.

Year 11 Exploring Pathways Event –An event aimed at providing Year 31/01/18 15-16 Career Stand 11 with information on pathways Apprenticeships. Employers and 13:50 – 15.55 providers are invited to support the school with a Careers stand. NYBEP are hosting The Big Meet on the Coast – Employers are invited 01/02/18 Scarborough Spa Employers Networking to attend the second Big Meet of this academic year. The aim of the meeting is to introduce employers and partners to our Successful Futures Programme. Successful Futures is a year-round programme of activity that supports schools with STEM, Careers and Enterprise designed to build long lasting partnerships between employers and schools. Successful Futures makes it easy for employers to engage with young people to ultimately develop/inform the future skills pipeline.

Year 8 and 10 Enterprise Days – Employers are invited to support 02/02/18 Archbishop Holgates 12-14 Business Advisor either Year Group and act as a Business Advisor. School, York 9:00-15:00 Year 8 – The Trading Game - Employers are invited to support The Trading Game – a fast paced, interactive game themed on the Stock Market. Employers are invited to support The Trading Pit on the day and to encourage students taking part to make as much money as they can to win the Game!

Year 10 – Industry Day – working in small teams to create a new product, students are inviting employers to support by being their Chief Executive for the day, supporting and advising the team.

Both challenges are interactive, fast paced and fun!

Preparation for Employment day, part of a Year 10 programme to 06/02/18 , York 14-15 Employer better prepare Year 10 for the world of work – employers are invited to workshop 9:00 – 12:15 support Year 10 students as part of a preparation for employment day. The school are seeking sessions delivered by employers on – What Employers are looking for in young people, CV’s, Application processes, skills and attributes, HR processes for recruiting young people etc. The session will be delivered to groups of 30 and be repeated around 5 times across the day to accommodate all Year 10 students. All School Drop Down Day - – Employers are invited to support the 06/02/18 Driffield School, East 11-19 Workshop school in a variety of ways. The school is hosting one of four Drop Riding 8:50-15:30 Down Days for their students – this one will be themed on Health.

The school is looking for any support from employers that positively promotes Health and the skills that employers are looking for/developing in young people either through activities, talks, challenges, information sessions etc. Each session lasting one hour and repeated over the day.

The school are particularly eager to engage Apprentices with their students, could be to support providers or Apprentices could provide their own sessions.

East Riding Apprenticeship Event – Schools from across the East 07/02/18 Bishop Burton College, 14-19 Career Stand Riding would welcome support from Employers to support the annual East Riding 9:00-15:00 Apprenticeship Event which is hosted at Bishop Burton College. Employers are invited to provide a career stand and talk to students about Apprenticeships and future opportunities. This event is attended by students who are considering Apprenticeships as a future pathway. Mock Interviews - Employers are invited to support a session aimed at 09/02/18 Thirsk School 15-16 Mock Interviewer providing Year 11 students with an experience of an interview. All 9:00-15:00 (tbc) questions and a full briefing on the session will be provided prior to the event. This session links in to a Programme for Year 11 dedicated to supporting their Year 11 with preparation for employment As part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme, a funded February/March Workplace Visits, various 14-16 Host programme to engage with students to raise aspirations of Higher schools Education, NYBEP are inviting employers to host a workplace visit for small groups of students (max 15). 07/03/18 Successful Futures, 11-16 Career Stand Successful Futures Careers Fair is open to all secondary schools and Coventry University colleges across Scarborough. This is the second event of its kind, Scarborough following on from the successful pilot in 2017. The event has been funded by the Scarborough Pledge and is the result of student voice feedback from young people on the Coast. Employers are invited to have a careers stand. Financial Awareness Session – employers are invited to support Year 05/03/18 14-15 Workshop 10 with a workshop that supports raising financial awareness. Times tbc Year 8 Enterprise Day – Fashion Fusion – Employers are invited to 07/03/18 Selby High School 12-13 Business Advisor support some or all of an enterprise day that is being delivered by Time tbc NYBEP. The enterprise challenge will see students designing fashion wear. The school would welcome employers to support. Year 7 Enterprise Day – Chocolate Box Challenge – Employers are 07/03/18 Ripon Grammar School 11-12 Business Advisor invited to support some or all of an enterprise day that is being delivered by NYBEP. The enterprise challenge will see students designing a brand new box of chocolates. The school would welcome employers to support. Apprenticeship Fair - employers are invited to support an in-school 15/03/18 Lady Lumley’s School, 14-16 Careers Stand Apprenticeship event aimed at broadening students’ knowledge of Pickering 9:00-15:30 future career opportunities with a Careers Stand. Barlby High Primary School STEM Fair – Employers are invited to 16/03/18 Barlby High School Primary Workshop provide a hands-on activity that engages student through science, students 9:00-15:30 technology, engineering and maths (STEM). Each year Barlby High hosts a full day dedicated to STEM for their feeder primary schools and would value employer support. Mock Interviews - Employers are invited to support a session aimed at 21/03/18 Millthorpe School, York 14-15 Mock Interviewer providing Year 10 students with an experience of an interview. All 9:00-15:00 (tbc) questions and a full briefing on the session will be provided prior to the event. This session links in to a Programme for Year 10 dedicated to supporting their Year 10 with preparation for employment.

Year 9 & 10 (one-year group in the morning and the other the 21/03/18 , Whitby 13-15 Business Advisor afternoon) The Trading Game - Employers are invited to support The 9:00-15:30 Trading Game – a fast paced, interactive game themed on the Stock Market. Employers are invited to support The Trading Pit on the day and to encourage students taking part to make as much money as they can to win the Game!

Schools from across the area are taking part in the annual Griffins’ April-June Griffins’ Nest, various 14-19 Business Advisor Nest STEM and Enterprise Competition – as part of this NYBEP link schools schools taking part with an employer to support the development of the students’ ideas in readiness for the Grand Finale taking place at Inspirations 2018, 28th June, Yorkshire Air Museum. If you can offer a few hours across three months to support a team please let us know and we will link you with a team.

All School Drop Down Day - – Employers are invited to support the 27/04/18 Driffield School, East 11-19 Various school in a variety of ways. The school is hosting one of four Drop Riding 8:50-15:30 Down Days for their students – this one will be themed on Bio Economy – alternative fuels, food industry, agriculture, horticulture, fisheries as well as promoting/developing employability skills.

The school is looking for any support from employers that positively promotes the theme and the skills that employers are looking for/developing in young people either through activities, talks, challenges, information sessions etc.

The school are particularly eager to engage Apprentices with their students, could be to support providers or Apprentices could provide their own sessions.

Annual Celebration of STEM in Education Event 28/06/18 Inspirations 2018, 11-19 Business Advisor Inspirations brings together STEM in a fun and interactive environment, Elvington York 9:00-14:30 linking classroom learning with real career opportunities. Last year over 1,000 students from across 40 schools from across Yorkshire and Humber took part in the event.

At the core of this event is a real celebration of achievement – we put young people at the heart of this event, displaying their ideas, projects and prototypes created within education or outside to our expert judges recruited from business, HE and other partners. Last year 100 projects were showcased and over 50 awards were made to students at the event by our judges and sponsored by businesses and partner organisations.

Last year we were delighted to team up with York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership, local employers and organisations including Drax Power, Doosan, FERA, Dale Power, Nestlé, RAF, Army, Navy, Sirius Minerals, Network Rail, GHD Ltd, Portakabin, and the Rotary Club as well as our education partners , , University of York, York St John and Coventry University and many more. This year we aim to make the event BIGGER and BETTER!

Employers are invited to JOIN US and support in a variety of ways including acting as an Advisor/Judge, sponsoring an award, providing a hands-on activity that promotes STEM or a careers stand.

Coming up…… We are busy preparing our programme of activity for National Careers Week and National Apprenticeship Week 5-10th March and would welcome any employers who wish to support in schools during these weeks to let us know and we will provide further details.

In addition, we are looking for Employers to talk to schools through assemblies/drop down days on various topics including, skills, what employers are looking for in young people etc. We have a particular focus on Employers in schools across the North Yorkshire Coast. Finally, we have more activity coming up across this academic year that will engage over 30,000 (11-19 years old) young people from across York, North Yorkshire and East Riding. We are in the process of liaising with schools to identify their preferred dates for activities. If you would like to be involved please let us know what type of activities you can support, which geographical area and we will ‘sign you up’ and ensure you will be the first to know when further information on dates.

Opportunity definitions –

Employer Speaker: this typically involves working with groups of students either in a session repeated to small groups across the day or in an assembly to a large group of students – talks can focus on, sharing knowledge and expertise of your sector/business, your career pathway, skills employers are looking for, recruitment process and more. Employer Workshop: this typically involves working with small groups of students with the workshop repeated across the day and features as part of a drop-down day – workshops can be informative on your sector/business and employers are encourage to do a hands-on activity or take a demonstration in of something you use in the workplace. Some schools request specifically STEM themed workshops, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and support with promoting Apprenticeships. Mock Interviewers: Mock interviews typically take place in a large school hall with students scheduled to visit for their allotted time. Employers are asked to ask a set of generic questions provided and to complete a small feedback section on each of the students interviewed. The feedback is presented to the school after the event by NYBEP. Business Advisers: this typically involves supporting NYBEP led STEM and Enterprise Challenges for example encouraging/listening to the student’s ideas and supporting with the judging of the final ideas. Speed Networking: this typically involves a timed (up to 5 minutes) two- way conversation between employer and student with questions and answers on employers’ job role/career pathway. Full information/briefing is provided on the day. Various: any of the above where appropriate. CPD/Networking – opportunities for employers to engage with teachers to support developing resources/updating teachers or employers.
