Treasurer’s Report: Peter Lyons In the Annual Meeting packet are 5 reports. 1. 2016-2017 Budget vs Actual. Most of the deficit comes from lending $17,000 to the Stone Lease Program to purchase additional stones. This money will be paid back to the Operating Account quarterly. $2,000 payment was made before the close of the fiscal year and a $2,000 payment will be made at the end of the month. All 37 sets of stones are currently leased out. 2. Assets Sheet This shows a comparison of this past fiscal year ending 2016-2017. The Operating Account and the Money Market combined total $100,949.52 at the close of the fiscal year. Current balance is $101,011.64. We have several large bills to pay prior to the start of our dues collection period in December, Accountant’s fees, insurance, newsletter and Annual Meeting expenses. The Operating Account includes $3,919.04 from last year’s junior camp earmarked for upcoming junior camps. 3. Profit & Loss For fiscal 2017-2018. The budget was based on a projected revenue of $76,400.00, including $4,400.00 from the USCA for the 2016-2017 play down season. With revenue of $87,138.93 and expenses of $78,550.97, the treasury has a surplus of $8,587.96 for fiscal year 2017-2018. 4. Balance Sheet From our Accounting package and is unaudited. Files are currently with McCaffery and Co, CPA. • Contingency Fund is in the low range per the accountant’s recommendation for a non-profit of our size. They recommend 1 to 1 1/2 years’ worth of expenses. Peter recommended to the Executive board that we increase the Contingency Fund by $10,000.00 this year. This is a restricted account. • The Memorial Trust has 3 outstanding loans (Peachtree, Petersham and Utica) and all are being paid on schedule. The total outstanding amount is $17,346.00. Peachtree’s first payment is not due yet. Petersham $20,000.00 loan has one payment of $1,749.00 left and is due by June 2018 • The Legacy Trust granted its first request of $27,157.28 from Charlotte Curling Association for heaters. This loan is being repaid on schedule. The outstanding balance is $18,552.99. This will be paid in full in August 2021. Pittsburg received a loan of $55,000.00 with a second loan of $20,000.00 anticipated. The first payment is not due yet. • The 2nd Century Fund has exceeded its reserve with a balance of $46,607.82. 5. Final Report The proposed budget for fiscal year 2018-2019 based on expected revenue of $71,094.00 for dues, $5,156.00, a reimbursement from the USCA for the 2017-2018 play down registrations and $1,500.00 in advertising. With the anticipated passage of the NMP, next year’s reports will look quite different. The Executive Board approved Gwen’s suggestion to follow the USCA model for discount membership dues for the first two years so new clubs can become financially stable. A 66% discount year one and a 33% discount year two. Of the $76,100.95 in dues collection, $56,043.00 from dedicated ice clubs, $18,457.28 from arena ice clubs, $1,267.67 from paper clubs and $330 from natural ice. The Executive Board signed a 3-year contract with Goldline Curling Supplies. Each club gets a 10% discount below wholesale prices. McCafferty and Co, CPA conducted their 5th annual review of the GNCC last May. The accountants are extremely happy with the redundancy built into our system. Peter is pleased to report that the GNCC is in sound financial standing and there is no plan to increase dues. Carl Thomas makes a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Maryann Vermeulan seconds it. All are in favor. President’s Report: Gwen Gwen has been involved in the Curling community in 1988 and 11 years later she joined the GNCC Board. Gwen has served the GNCC for the past 19 years. Gwen thanks Joel Leneker for his creativity with the Anniversary Pin and tartan. She also commends Joel on his successful “Curl Up with a Partner” program. Gwen researched our 150 years of history to create the 298-page book of the History of the GNCC. She thanks George Shirk for serving as her editor. Gwen will continue to be a part of the GNCC as part of the Mentoring Program. There are nine new clubs what have joined in the past 2 years and our membership grew from 4,919 to 5,704. Gwen thanks the Club Reps, Club Presidents and the GNCC Board for all they’ve done and she is confident, with the new governance changes that GNCC will be able to successfully move forward as we start our next 150 years. Events Leading to Nationals: Maryann Vermeulan The full report can be found in the Annual Meeting folder. Maryann thanked Michael Stefanik, Emily Anderson and Joel Leneker for their help with the Juniors and the Mixed Events. Maryann thanks Emily Anderson for accepting the position as the GNCC Junior Coordinator. Maryann reports on the Events leading to Nationals • The Men’s and Women’s Club Championships. The two events were combined because of the low number of Women’s teams registering. 6 Women’s teams and 17 Men’s teams entered. • The GNCC has awarded Team Stopera from Ardsley as the GNCC Club National Playdown champions by defeating Team Guzman from Broomstones at Club Nationals. • This was year 2 of the Junior U-18 Regional Championship. The Men’s team which included Eli Clawson, Daniel Casper, Marius Kleinas and Christopher Pingitore placed fourth in the National Finals and the Women’s team which included Susan Dudt, Rebecca Rodgers, Anna Cenzalli, and Sydney Mullaney won the Silver Medal at Nationals. • 7 teams competed in the GNCC Mixed Championship held in Rochester. The GNCC Champions were Rochester’s team of Caitlin Maroldo, Jeff Pulli, Rebecca Anderson and Jason Scott who finished fourth in this event. • The USA team skipped by Ardsley’s Andrew Stopera competed at the World’s Junior Championship in Scotland and finished in fourth place. Sara Anderson and Korey Dropkin finished 13th overall in the World’s Mixed Doubles Championship in Sweden. Three curlers, coached by Wayne Anderson competed in the 2017 World’s Mixed Championship in Switzerland last October. The team consisted of Hunter Clawson, Emily Anderson, and Caleb Clawson. They earned a spot in the finals but lost to Sweden in an extra end. • Officials: To maintain the quality of our championships, we have increased our pool of umpires. At our request, the USCA scheduled officiating training at GNCC locations for the past two seasons. The USCA lists over 300 certified officials but this list is clearly outdated. Maryann is working with Chief Umpires Ken McPartlin and Herb Kupchik to identify all the officials within the GNCC. 2nd Vice President’s Report: Benj Guzman Benj reports that it’s great to see all the events that the GNCC holds as well as the volunteers who come out to help.

  • Athlet Programs and Services
As the Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) for Curling in Ontario, the Ontario Curling Council (OCC) is responsible for the implementation of programming for athletes, coaches and officials. The OCC, and its members, the Northern Ontario Curling Association (NOCA) and the Ontario Curling Association (OCA) work together to deliver a wide spectrum of programs, services and competitions to athletes at all ages and stages of the Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD). The LTAD, a development pathway for both the recreational and competitive curlers, prescribes age/stage appropriate activities at all levels of the model. It is impossible for one service provider to deliver all programs and services within the model. The framework relies heavily on local clubs to provide development opportunities and places for curlers to play recreationally, and a daily training environment for competitive curlers. The OCA, NOCA and OCC are responsible for provision of meaningful, age/stage appropriate competitions, and programs to support the development of athletes so that any curler with aspirations of podium performances will receive the correct interventions at the right time of their development. Curling’s LTAD – “Curling for Life” is a framework, produced by Curling Canada, to ensure nation- wide standardization in the development of curling athletes and recreational players. Ontario – is committed to ensuring that we are leaders in the implementation of LTAD programming as recommended by Curling Canada, and to ensure that every curler, no matter what age, stage or ability has a positive experience within the sport. This document is a comprehensive guide to the LTAD age/stage appropriate programming offered within the province of Ontario, focussing particularly on the programs, competitions and services offered by the OCC and its members, the OCA and NOCA.
