DRESSAGE

Vine Triumphs Olivia, Annabel and Poppy at Area Dressage The Vine had a fantastic day at the Area Dressage with the Open team – Poppy, Annabel and Olivia – winning the class and qualifying for the Open National Championships at Cholmondeley Castle later in August. Poppy was 1st individually in her arena, Olivia 2nd in hers and Annabel 4th.

The Intermediate team, made up of Miles, Georgia, Tori and Tom, came 2nd – another great result, with Miles and Tori winning their arenas and qualifying for the Intermediate Championships.

Georgia and Tom were 8th and 9th respectively, with Alice 8th and Connie 7th individually. The Vine Open Team Many of the Novices and Minis were competing for a first time (either themselves or their horses/ponies) at Area level and learned such a lot from the experience. The Novice team comprised Holly, Hannah, Amy and Gemma. Holly gained an individual 8th place–fantastic!

The Minis – Claudia, Poppy, Ella and Katie – all rode beautifully with Poppy gaining an individual 9th place.

A great day for Vine Dressage!

MINI EASTER EGG HUNT

The Vine Minis had a fabulous time at our Annual Easter Egg Hunt, very kindly hosted and organised by Zoe Donald.

We went on a gentle hack through beautiful woodland during which the minis dismounted and hunted for pegs (which were later swopped for eggs), followed by an Egg Throwing Competition back at Al and Zoe Donald’s lovely home, then a delicious sausage-in-a-roll and cake lunch and further egg throwing.

The weather was perfect and there were How many Minis can you spot? smiles all round.

Since Easter there have been lots of evening mini rallies organised and these have been well attended. The Vine has recently had an influx of new mini members, most of whom have signed up to camp. It promises to be another fun filled four days of activities both mounted and on foot, with plenty to keep even the youngest members busy and happy learning about pony care, riding, stable management, and most of all having fun with friends old and new.

A Stable Solution

I’ve just moved to a new house with a three-acre paddock, so am considering taking my horse out of Q livery and bringing him home. However, where do I start when considering stabling for him?

Top Tips If you’re planning on building a new yard, bear in mind that it’s false economy to skimp on groundworks – a poorly constructed base can prove costly in the long-run and can radically affect the lifespan of your buildings. Whether mobile or permanent, don’t Richard Parker from Ascot Buildings answers: skimp on the basics. First, you need to consider your horse. If he is a hardy native type, then he might be able to live out all year. If so, you could consider a mobile field shelter that offers protection from the elements and somewhere dry for daily checks, feeding and grooming. A ‘mobile’ shelter can be moved to fit in with field rotation and doesn’t require any planning permission. Some owners also invest in a free-standing barn with a tack/feed room, so you have additional storage for hay and bedding, as well as somewhere secure for your tack, equipment and rugs.

Planning Permission The next step up would be to build a stable block of your own – which is an exciting project for any horse owner. As well as the obvious In nearly all cases, planning permission is required when building things like style, layout, materials, fittings and finishes, make sure you stables, associated buildings or other facilities connected with their consider the size of your horse, windows and ventilation, location and use.
