North Football Club Newsletter, February 2019 ’s historic, first AFLW match a huge success The North ’s hosting of the historic AFLW match between Carlton and the North Melbourne Tasmania Kangaroos on Sunday February 3 was a huge success. Officially around 5,000 people turned out for the clash although we think it was probably more given the difficulties putting a figure on a free event. It was a bit like the ‘old days’ where we had long queues up Argyle street and down Ryde Street waiting for the gates to open. The event was warmly praised by the AFL with AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan absolutely delighted with the presentation of the event. A massive well done and thanks to everyone at the club who helped on the day and to the Hobart City Council, AFL Tasmania, North Melbourne and the AFL for the great roles they played in making the event an outstanding success. Wouldn’t a home final at North Hobart be brilliant! If not, we can’t wait for next year!

It was great to have key AFL people join us for the day; with Club President Craig Martin and GM Paul Curtain are from left: AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, Carlton President Mark LoGiudice, North Melbourne CEO Carl Dilena, AFL General Counsel/Game Development Manager Andrew Dillon and Carlton CEO Cain Liddle. 1

North Hobart President Craig Martin was delighted to present Hobart’s Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds with North Hobart’s Number 1 Membership ticket.

Head of AFLW and triple Olympic Medallist Nicole Livingstone, spoke superbly about the growth and excitement of women’s footy.

Important money raised for the Vinnies Bushfire appeal We partnered with Vinnies as part of the AFLW match on February 3 to raise money for the Vinnies Bushfire Relief Appeal. We donated $500 from the match to the Bushfire Relief Appeal and we invited Vinnies volunteers to attend the match with donation tins and they raised $1708 for the Bushfire Appeal. It was great to be able to contribute in some way to such a worthy cause.
