Ed Fields, Director of Events and Community Engagement Known as a level-headed diplomat, creative risk taker and inspirational leader, Ed Fields has learned about leadership through experiences as a in both for profit and not-for- profit organizations. He has served as executive producer, planner and the primary execution force behind major fundraising events and high profile community initiatives in Alabama for more than fifteen years, including years of distinguished service as a chamber of commerce executive. Ed co-founded and led Relax, It’s Handled, a nationally- recognized, award-winning association and event management company for eight years before selling his company and joining Alabama Media Group. Ed serves as Director of Events and Community Engagement for Alabama Media Group, Alabama’s largest news media organization with publications such as AL.com, Birmingham magazine, The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times, The Mississippi Press and Mobile’s Press-Register. He is responsible for leading AMG’s community engagement strategy, including events, partnerships and special projects such as new statewide initiatives to help companies and key leaders connect with Millennial-aged consumers and employees. Ed currently serves as Chairman for the Community Investment Network, a national network of philanthropists with a mission to inspire and support collective giving in and among communities of color. A transplant from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ed received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the College of Business Administration at Alabama State University and earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Alabama’s prestigious Manderson School of Business. He has also received his Institute of Management (IOM) designation, a nonprofit management certification, from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Ed has received numerous awards and accolades for his quality work and community service from organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Business Journal, Birmingham Business Alliance and Alabama State University College of Business Administration, among many others.
