13th AUNILO Meeting “ASEAN Digital Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for Academic Libraries Network”

Address by AUNILO Secretariat

Ms. Engku Razifah Engku Chik Acting Chairperson of the AUNILO Secretariat

Good morning.

Honoured guests, Ladies and gentlemen.

First of all, on behalf of AUNILO Secretariat, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all delegates to the 13th AUNILO Meeting which will be held from 7th – 9th August 2017 hosted by the Mahidol University, Thailand.

I also would like to express my warm welcome to the representatives who are attending this meeting for the first time. I am delighted to have all of you here who have travel from long distances, just to participate in this meeting and that is to show how important our network is.

Ladies and gentlemen; This year our theme is ‚ASEAN Digital Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for Academic Libraries.‛ The digital revolution of a country is no longer an option but a much-needed necessity when it comes to uplifting a nation to rank amongst the top and outline its appeal to foreign investors. Institutions of higher learning have evolved over time and today in global knowledge and digital economy combined together we are challenged to step up to build industry relevant talent, the ‚Digital Workforce‛, a labour pool that integrates technology to connect all elements of the supply chain, tailored to meet the digital economy’s demands. Therefore, a holistic move are needed to upskill the future’s young talents to ensure the employability and capability to create a sustainable pipeline of digital workers.

In 2015, AUNILO has had its first Strategic Planning Meeting and one of the initiatives is the AUNILO Capability Building Training which will be carried out annually during the Meeting. I am glad that we managed to execute the plan and manage to organize the workshop on ‚Creating MOOC for Library Instruction using edX Platform‛ from 10th-11th August 2017 addressing the trends of online learning, creating courses in an online platform in order to 22

13th AUNILO Meeting “ASEAN Digital Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for Academic Libraries Network”

make learning more accessible to the people. With the combination of discussion, hands on and sharing of best practices, it is very much anticipated that the workshop will further advance our continuous effort to deliver the best deal for our customers and venture out to embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution which will transform global higher education, libraries and librarians way of doing things.

Ladies and gentlemen, This year it is going to be the 13th AUNILO Meeting and we have come this far with concerted efforts of all members. From the small initiatives, we are trying to accomplish bigger endeavors which will benefit all of us in the long run. For the newcomers, I believe you will enjoy being in the Network as much as we have and hope that this meeting will be a good platform in cultivating new ideas, sharing new technologies and also best practices among member Universities.

I wish to extend my appreciation and sincere thank you to Mahidol University, Thailand for their support, the AUN Secretariat, AUNILO Secretariat and to all AUNILO members who have supported the organization of this meeting, in particular, the Vice of Mahidol University, the University Librarians and the team without whom this meeting will not be a reality.

Thank you and best wishes for a successful meeting in Thailand, 2017.

Thank You.

13th AUNILO Meeting “ASEAN Digital Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for Academic Libraries Network”

Address by The AUN Executive Director

Dr.Choltis Dhirathiri

The AUN Executive Director

Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, President of Mahidol University; Ms. Engku Razifah Engku Chik, Chairperson of AUNILO Secretariat and Chief Librarian of Universiti Sains Malaysia; Dr. Ruchareka Wittayawuttikul, Director of Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center; Representatives from Libraries of AUN Member Universities; Ladies and Gentlemen.

Good morning

I am delighted to meet you all at the 13th AUNILO Meeting at Mahidol University. It is the greatest pleasure for the AUNILO members and me to be received by President Banchong of Mahidol University today. We are very grateful to you and Mahidol University for hosting this meeting. May I also thank AUNILO Secretariat for organizing the meeting, and coming up with the theme of ‚ASEAN Digital Economy: Challenges and Opportunities for Academic Libraries‛ and I should like to express my gratitude and appreciation to our AUNILO colleagues for your continued support and contributions to AUNILO network and its activities.

I am particularly conscious of the important role of library in today’s world of learning whereby the growth of global data sphere is faster than our abilities to make sense and make use of them. AUNILO is a valuable platform for AUN, and for ASEAN, to share and discuss what we can do together to catch up with changes, especially the changes in the way students are now learning or constructing their knowledge.

I hope we can continue to keep in the closest inter-library cooperation. Thirteen years of collaboration is quite an achievement already.

Summary Report of Lecture and Demonstration Introduction to MOOC and Open edX (Open Source Platform) by Prof. Dr. Vilas Wuwongse

The main reason in practical with MOOCS are the Demand Pull from the users that concerning about demand of new skills training and Technology Push on today which go faster, convenience to users. For example, the combining between mobile phone and cloud technology that users could access from anywhere and anytime. Open edX is the one of MOOC, many courses in the edX consists of weekly classes which designed by consisting video including some exercises, contents online and the students can access to read, discuss and change views with other students. The goal of MOOC to be an effective and successful is the students must be Happy, active and engages. The effective and successful MOOCs must be focus on the learner instead of the content and designing the course should be suitable for the learner as the learner center. MOOCs could be very helpful in many roles for the library such as using for open textbooks, multimedia textbook. The ADDIE model is developing process type of instruction that instructional designers and developers commonly used for training and the important steps include analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation. With OEI Course Design Rubric intended to establish standards that relating to collaboration, interaction and design, accessibility, learner support, and assessment. Finally, MOOC will become a new tool for active learning in the near future.

MOOCs and Academic Libraries discussion by Dr. Ruchareka Wittayawuttikul, Prof. Dr. Vilas Wuwongse, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chutiporn Anutariya (Moderator)

Dr.Ruchareka Wittayawuttikul, Director of Mahidol University Library and Knowledge Center shared her learning experience with MOOC from several free online courses and showed her many certificates which came from the attempt and often her rehearsal in order to be successful and how to get a certificates which some of them need to pay a fee such as Coursera, edx. The favorite one of her was Business Model Canvas course. She said that there are many ways to improve English skills and how to speak English professionally. The method consists of reading, video learning, taking self-video, and others methods that easy for you. One thing is very important is always practicing and reviewing by yourself. She also encouraged every audiences and hope them success in their life like her.

Dr. Vilas Wuwongse shared the learning experience with MOOC in the role on both of learner and teacher. He likes to practice computer programming consists of C++, Java, and phyton. To obtain more understanding, the speaker study on online websites and do some exercises and practice more. For the learner, just specified on free online courses without need of any certificate such as Python (Programming Language) and for the teacher, sometime might be create the course for the learner. He said that it’s too difficult to encourage student to interest on free online courses without any interesting. The course and the objective of learning must be clarify to them for learning.

Our First Experience in Taking a MOOC Course and MOOC Development with ADDIE Instructional Design Model by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chutiporn Anutariya

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chutiporn showed an example of Mahidol University Extension (MUX) that was created by openedX how they are working and then started with an activities of MOOC Learning Experience by using group discussion and brainstorming to the learners in own group by writing down methods used for teaching and learning, content types, and learning activities on sticky notes then attached to flipped chart, finally summarize their opinions. On the first stage, took about 40 minutes, by working in a small group of 2-3 people, using laptop and go to several MOOC providers such as courser.org, edx.org, muxdev.mahidol.ac.th, Thaimooc.org (most MOOCS are in Thai), browse and search for several interesting courses, enroll and learn certain lessons of a few courses (watch videos, practice some exercises, take some tests, participate in the discussion boards). Next step, took about 20 minutes by sharing experience between learners with the group for the given issue and summarize a learner’s findings on the flipped chart using sticky notes. Then took about 20 minute to be continue with the issue of methods used for teaching and learning, content types, learning activities, time length of each learning activity, each content type, course duration and total time used for completing a course. Next, took about 20 minutes for studied methods and techniques used for assessment (exercises, quizzes, exams) such as multiple choices, how frequent and how long of each assessment, grading criteria, course certificate. The last of activity was the gallery walk about 10-15 minutes, the learners walked to see the other sharing about learning experience on every flipped chart in the room.

MOOC Development with ADDIE Model started with the analysis steps. The first things had to be considered was which online courses to be developed, define learning objectives / learning outcomes, analyze target learners and their background, analyze the duration and length of the course. Next, was design steps should have design corresponding assessment methods and design corresponding instructional methods, course outline, lessons, media, learning activities. Development steps was about produce learning contents, exercises, create and edit videos, upload contents into the system, test and improve quality. Implement (RUN) steps was about deliver MOOC online, motivate and engage learners during the course run, continually feedback and analyze learner engagement. The final steps with Evaluate was about perform learning analytics

Creating a MOOC Course for Library Instruction: Step-by-Step, Creating and Reusing Digital Contents, Open Educational Resources (OER), and Copyright Issues and Creating Your Own MOOC by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chutiporn Anutariya

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chutiporn explained how to creating MOOC course for library with step-by- step which there were many elements need to be consider include MOOC Project Proposal and Planning: the learners had known that a good MOOC Project should be consider to the course that satisfy the user requirements, according to the target learners, clarify the objectives and benefits, the readiness of development team, efficiently of resources (Time, Budget, Equipment, etc) and orderly of work plan.

Using ADDIE model to make more understanding in order to create MOOC Course step by step. The design phase should be more attend on course details and course outline, assessment methods and evaluation criteria, instructional methods, online learning activities, video content and media production planning as well creating own educational resources you should consider your own budget, time and manpower needed. The copyright issues and legal cases had to pay more attention when using the reuse or remix of educational resources that were created by others like a picture or video in MOOC Course. These have a license of owner information, picture or video when you want to use information on MOOC which you need to know and understood the meaning on each type of license by clearly which include 1) for public domain - the author gives away right to the public 2) creative commons - the author grants rights in advance 3) copyright - the author does not grant rights to the public. Open Educational Resources (OERs) are any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The nature of these open materials means that anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them. OERs range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video and animation. Main characteristics of OER were reuse, revise, remix, redistribute, retain. There are many alternative information source OER such as openstax.org, open.bccampus.ca, oercommons.org, pixabay, freepik.co, thai oer (oer.learn.in.th) etc.

Creating on own MOOC, Dr. Chutiporn shared her knowledge and experience on Mahidol University Extension (MUX) that was created by openedX. There were two main MUX website on MOOC system 1) muxdev.mahidol.ac.th - for learners learning the online course 2) studio- muxdev.mahidol.ac.th - studio to create online course for course creator and started MOOC workshop activities by divided learners into 8-9 groups started with game playing to answer about

112

MOOC knowledge by using tools on kahoot.it website. After finished game, had given the trial username and password of MOOC account on MUX system to every learners in order to learn how to create their online course. After that add weekly course then add lesson and quiz by using multiple choices. In each lesson the learner could use the video link from Youtube site or a picture from OER site into their lesson.

Video and Audio Production by Marut Klongklaew

The lecturer explained to the video and audio production by starting from the beginning of photographing in the several characteristics as follows:  Extreme Long Shot (ELS/EWS)  Long Shot (LS / FS)  Medium Long Shot (MLS)  Medium Shot (MS)  Medium Close-up (MCU)  Close-up (CU)  Extreme (ECU)

Well-framed shots are essential to basic filming. You should arrange your subject on the screen so that your shot is well balanced and pleasing to the eye. Most shots of a person are medium close- up shots, and show just the head and shoulders. Basically, you should consider the subject's head room, looking room and walking room When you frame a subject, it is important to look in the viewfinder, and pay close attention to the background. .You should give more space in front of the subject in the direction the subject is moving. As the subject moves, you should pan the camera to maintain a constant amount of walking room.

Video editing is the process of editing segments of motion video production footage, special effects and sound recordings in the post-production process. Motion picture film editing is a predecessor to video editing and, in several ways, video editing simulates motion picture film editing. Types of editing for MOOC is used Non-linear editing system (NLE), This is edited on computers with special software. These are nondestructive to the video being edited and use programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After effect. Sound Recording and Editing is concerning about Narration High-quality narration can be an invaluable asset to your video projects. There are three essential ingredients for creating high quality narration consist of : 1) a well-written script 2) smooth delivery and script 3) clear recording.
