PREMIERE

THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SERIES PREMIERE OF “V” ARRIVES TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3 ON ABC

Elizabeth Mitchell, Scott Wolf, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch Among Stars

“V” is a re-imagining of the 1980s’ miniseries about the world’s first encounter with an alien race. With huge spaceships simultaneously appearing over 29 cities around the world, the Visitors (or V’s) seem to promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V’s quickly build a following that may be overlooking a more malevolent agenda. The premiere of “V,” from Warner Bros. Television, airs TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on ABC.

In the premiere episode, “Pilot,” an image of Anna (Morena Baccarin), the leader of the V’s, is projected worldwide as she speaks about everyone joining together and no longer being divided by country or separated by fear. She wants us all to unite, and is counting on a very important component of human nature -- devotion. At first considered a threat, the V’s quickly become a fascination and a link to things that lay just beyond our reach. For Tyler (Logan Huffman), a teenaged boy, the V’s are his ticket to being a part of something big and something that offers hope. To Chad (Scott Wolf), an egotistical news anchor who wants to further his career, his exclusive interview with Anna begins his desire to dominate the airwaves. Father Jack (Joel Gretsch), a priest with questioning faith, is hesitant to believe in the Visitors’ righteousness and goes outside of the church in search of the truth. There are other dissidents who believe the Visitors aren’t who they say they are, including Ryan (Morris Chestnut), who is faced with a life-altering decision when the V’s show up. And to FBI Counter Terrorist Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell), who discovers, while investigating a terrorist cell, what lurks beneath the alarmingly human exterior of the Visitors, resisting this new world has never been more important -- and never has there been more at stake. This truly is the dawning of a new day.

“V” stars Elizabeth Mitchell as Erica Evans, Morris Chestnut as Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch as Father Jack, Lourdes Benedicto as Valerie, Logan Huffman as Tyler Evans, Laura Vandervoort as Lisa, with Morena Baccarin as Anna, and Scott Wolf as Chad Decker.

Guest starring in “Pilot” are Alan Tudyk as Dale Maddox, Jesse Wheeler as Brandon, Britt Irvin as Haley Gordon, David Richmond-Peck as Georgie, Christopher Shyer as Marcus, Scott Hylands as Father Travis and Stefan Arngrim as Roy.

Cast bios and photography are available at www.abcmedianet.com on the “V” show page under the Primetime section.

“V” is produced by The Scott Peters Company and HDFilms in association with Warner Bros. Television. Scott Peters (who wrote the pilot), Jeffrey Bell, Steve Pearlman and Jace Hall are executive producers. The pilot was directed by Yves Simoneau. “V” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s HDTV format, with 5.1 channel sound and Spanish subtitles. A TV Parental guideline will be assigned closer to airdate. For more information on “V,” please visit ABC.com.

October 12, 2009 Primetime Ratings Report

For the week of September 21, 2009 (Premiere Week National Live + 7 Day Program Ratings)

ABC’s Premiere Week Results Grow from First-Reported Numbers by 1.0 Million Viewers, by 12% in Adults 18-49 and by 15% in Adults 18-34

ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” is Once Again TV’ Biggest Gainer in the DVR Numbers, Jumping by 3.0 Million Viewers and 1.5 Adult 18-49 Rating Points in the Finals

ABC’s “FlashForward” is TV’s Top Freshman Gainer in Viewers and Adults 18-49

ABC Airs 9 Series Registering Increases of 1 Million Viewers or More in the Finals

2009-10 WEEK No. 1 Live + 7 Day Ratings: Based on the first round of Live + 7 Day rating for the new television season, ABC saw its premiere week primetime averages jump from its originally reported Live + Same Day numbers by 1.0 million viewers (12.0 million vs. 11.0 million), by +12% in Adults 18-49 (3.7/10 vs. 3.3/9) and by +15% in Adults 18-34 (3.0/9 vs. 2.6/8). With Household DVR penetration rising sharply year to year (from 27% to 33%), ABC’s premiere week increases were bigger this year than last from the initially reported Live + Same Day numbers to the final Live + 7 Day averages. ABC remained the No. 1 network during premiere week (w/o 9/21/09) among Adults 18-49 in the Live + 7 Day averages.

• Similarly to last season, ABC series were among the most popularly recorded and played back. Like last season, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” was once again TV’s most-played-back show this season. On average, “Grey’s Anatomy” stood as the biggest actual gainer from the originally reported premiere week numbers (Live + Same Day) to the finalized DVR playback numbers (Live + 7 Day), generating an additional +3.0 million viewers (17.0 million to 20.0 million). In fact, “Grey’s” DVR increase was bigger this season than on opening week last year, when it gained +2.7 million viewers from Live + Same Day to the Live + 7 Day averages in originals. The sixth-season ABC medical drama was also the top gainer in Adult 18-49 rating, picking up 1.5 rating points in the finalized numbers – surging from a 6.7 rating to an 8.2 rating.

• A total of 9 of ABC’s scripted series gained 1.0 million viewers or more on average from their originally reported numbers to the final DVR playback numbers, including “Grey’s Anatomy” (+3.0 million – biggest gainer overall), “FlashForward” (+2.0 million – biggest new-series gainer), “Desperate Housewives” (+1.7 million), “Castle” (+1.5 million), “the forgotten” (+1.3 million), “Modern Family” (+1.1 million), “Eastwick” (+1.1 million), “” (+1.1 million) and “Brothers & Sisters” (+1.0 million).

• Among Adults 18-49, 7 of ABC’s scripted series registered substantial ratings increases of half-a-rating point or more: “Grey’s Anatomy” (+1.5 rating point – top gainer overall), “FlashForward” (+0.8 rating – top freshman gainer), “Desperate Housewives” (+0.7 rating), “Castle” (+0.6 rating), “Modern Family” (+0.6 rating), “Cougar Town” (+0.5 rating) and “Brothers & Sisters” (+0.5 rating).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 33% currently, from 27% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

“EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION” RESPONDS TO THE CALL OF AN EMT AND VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER WHO BECAME DISABLED BY A SPEEDING CAR

Country Music Superstar Clint Black Volunteers for “Get on the Bus” Campaign

“Mattingly Family” -- On September 5, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and celebrity volunteer Clint Black traveled to Daviess County, KY to tell Steve and Melissa Mattingly that their current home, a small single-wide trailer, will be replaced by a newly constructed home built in just seven days. This episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” airs SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on ABC.

Country music superstar Clint Black will be the celebrity volunteer to “Get on the Bus” for this build.

Two years ago, Steve Mattingly was responding to a fire call at a neighborhood home, where he was asked to direct traffic around the site. Steve’s wife, Melissa, was driving by the fire when disaster struck: Steve was hit full speed by a car that didn’t see him. An EMT herself, Melissa immediately got out of her car and ran to her husband to give him care. Steve suffered multiple injuries, brain damage and amnesia. To date, he has had seven surgeries to try to repair the damage. Most of his problems with pain, balance and memory are irreparable, and he will probably never be able to work a full-time job again. Although Steve, 41, has regained his ability to walk and retains his humorous personality, his family knows his life has changed forever. They live in a small, 700-square-foot crumbling trailer, and Melissa, 38, is now the sole wage earner. They cannot afford to fix the home, which they also share with their growing daughters, Alana, 12, and Madison, 11. Now it’s up to Ty and the gang to give this family who have endured such hardship some comfort in a peaceful new home.

Show designers for this episode are Ty Pennington, Michael Moloney and Didiayer Snyder.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It is executive-produced by Anthony Dominici. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. The series is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
