Tax and AC/DC
Tax and AC/DC Kim G C Moody FCPA, FCA, TEP September 21, 2015 Those of you who know me well will know that my first career choice was to be a music teacher. I studied and played music classically well into my teens. When I realized that my talents would likely not provide me a stable living, I switched gears and became a Chartered Accountant. I still love music – all types of music with a few exceptions – but I have a soft spot for classic rock which is often playing in my office. One of my all time favorite bands is AC/DC. Their straight-ahead blues rock with very simple (almost comical) lyrics is exactly what I like to listen to when I need to turn my brain off (which doesn’t happen very often). Accordingly, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to attend AC/DC’s concert in Edmonton on September 20, 2015. It was a cold and wet night, but that didn’t dampen the spirit of the crowd. Classic rock concerts and tax go together like wine and cheese. The last time that AC/DC was on tour in Canada was 2009 and I attended their concert in Vancouver. I wrote a blog about tax and AC/DC back then and I’m continuing that tradition here. So what was I thinking about while listening? (I Sverige släpps albumet den 28 november). ‘Rock or Bust’ is the band’s first studio album in six years and features 11 new tracks. ‘Rock or Bust’ follows the immensely successful ‘Black Ice’ album, which debuted at #1 in 31 countries upon its release in 2008 and has gone on to sell nearly 8 million copies worldwide. ‘Rock or Bust’ was recorded in Spring 2014 at Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, BC and finds AC/DC once again working with producer Brendan O’Brien and mixer Mike Fraser. Starting September 27, Turner Sports will provide fans a sneak peek of the new track ‘Play Ball’ as part of the 2014 Major League Baseball Postseason campaign. The content will run for several weeks across TBS, the exclusive home to this year’s American League Postseason coverage, as well as leading media brands within the Turner portfolio. ‘Rock or Bust’ is the first AC/DC album in the band’s 41 year history without founding member Malcolm Young on the recordings. Earlier this year AC/DC released a statement explaining that due to illness, Malcolm would be taking a break from the band. Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band. AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of ‘Rock or Bust’ in 2015. -

Initially released digitally as one of four promotional singles for the album Nothing but the Beat in August 2011, the hit was o!cially released as the fourth single from the album in December of that same year. ‘Titanium’ was well received in many of the top music markets worldwide, achieving number 1s in four countries and top 10s in an incredible twenty "ve countries across the globe. #e single was met with positive reviews, with many claiming it to be the show stopper of the album thanks to Sia’s collaboration on lyrics and phenomenal vocal performance. Described as “epic and energising”, ‘Titanium’ was musically likened to the works of Coldplay and Sia’s vocal was compared to that of Fergie. Many reviewers raved about Sia’s delivery of the song’s hook, stating that ‘Titanium’ was by far the “most intriguing hook-up” of Guetta’s "$h studio album. #e single was certi"ed 3 x Platinum in the UK with sales just short of two million copies, and 2 x Platinum in the US with four million records sold. Guetta’s album Nothing But !e Beat topped the album charts in the DJ’s home nation of France, as well as Australia, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. While some reviewers felt it was lacking somewhat in comparison to his earlier works, the album was well-received by many with tracks ‘Night of Your Life’ and ‘Titanium’ being highlighted as the strongest on the release.
