►Ordinary life – hero’s everyday world (beginning)
►We meet Shrek living alone and happy in the swamp Call to adventure ►Faced with invitation or challenge ►Initially refuses the call
►Lord Farquad sends fairytale creatures to swamp and Shrek doesn’t want them there Assistance/Mentor ►Guide or mentor who helps hero on his journey (protect or point the way) ►Hero will also have allies/helpers who journey with him (sidekick)
►Donkey accompanies Shrek on his journey and overs sage advice Departure/Crossing threshold
►Leaves ordinary world by crossing the threshold (known to unknown)
►Shrek leaves the swamp for the forest Trials/Challenges ►Challenges or temptations that try to steer hero off course
►The dragon, his insecurity, dealing with donkey Approach ►Hero faces biggest ordeal/greatest fear
►Realizes he loves Fiona when alone back at swamp but is afraid she won’t love him Crisis/Ordeal
►Hero’s darkest hour where he faces death or dies and is reborn
