CCSA English briefing on Sunday 7 February 2021 (Unofficial translation)

1. The number of new cases is 237 (112 from active case finding) with 668 new recoveries. The number of accumulated cases stands at 23,371 of which 6,350 are active cases. There is no fatality today, with the accumulated number of fatalities at 79.

2. The overall COVID-19 situation in over the past week, from 31 January - 7 February, has improved: only 7 out of 77 provinces have reported cases over the past few days.

3. CCSA provided an update on measures in three provinces after an increasing number of infections, as follows.

3.1 The Samut Sakhon Provincial Administration has decided to elevate some areas of Nadee and Tha Sai sub-districts in Muang district to the maximum and strict control zone. These areas cover four major factories, where more than 7,000 employees, mostly migrant workers, are infected with COVID-19.

3.2 Health authorities have stepped up COVID-19 surveillance in western . As of 5 February 2021, out of 13,192 accumulated active case findings from 118 factories in 6 districts, 54 cases were found positive, or 0.41 per cent. However, the good news is that the AiMASK mask wearing detection system in public areas found that 98.07 per cent of people in Bangkok wore their masks correctly during 28 January – 4 February.

3.3 The Governor of has elevated district to a maximum and strict control zone, banned large social gatherings, and required travellers arriving from Mae Sot district to quarantine themselves for 14 days.

4. The Government seeks to reduce the financial burden on people affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and has rolled out a series of relief measures to assist a wide range of social groups.

4.1 The Ministry of Commerce has teamed up with 11 digital platforms to roll out new discount campaigns, running until 28 February 2021, to relieve the economic impact of COVID-19.

4.2 The Government has launched a new financial scheme known as “Rao Chana” or “We Win” whereby the Government will provide a total of 7,000 baht per person in the form of credit for two months. The credit can be used to purchase food and essential goods, and to pay for public transport. It is expected to assist around 31 million people affected by the pandemic.

5. CCSA is pleased to share acts of kindness, which continue to lift up our spirits and to inspire others during these difficult times. For example, a non-profit organization is partnering up with a local supermarket chain to collect surplus food from twenty stores across Bangkok and using this food to prepare delicious meals for families in need across the country. This reflects efforts to reduce food waste and improve food equity, while also strengthening society’s resilience amidst the pandemic.
