ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 14 (1)

Temporary Towpath Closure to Towpath

(Reference 16/196)

1. The Council of the Borough of Richmond upon Thames, with the agreement of the London Borough of Hammersmith and HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that to facilitate maintenance to the river bank of the they have made a temporary Traffic Order, the effect of which is to introduce a temporary prohibition of traffic and pedestrians on a length of the towpath along the River Thames between Hammersmith Bridge and Kew.

2. Whilst the works take place no person shall enter or proceed in the riverside towpath (and the access path to the towpath adjacent to the upstream side of the bridge) between Hammersmith Bridge and the Swedish School on Lonsdale Road, Barnes.

3. The order will come into effect on 29 September 2016. The restrictions will be in force at all times from 29 September 2016 until 4 November 2016 inclusive. The order will remain in force for a period of 6 months, to allow for unexpected events and possible remedial works.

4. An alternative route for pedestrians will be available via the downstream side of Hammersmith Bridge, Castelnau, Lonsdale Road, the footpath that runs adjacent to the Swedish School, and the footpath leading to the river towpath.

5. The prohibitions apply only during such time and to such extent as indicated by prescribed traffic signs.

6. Nothing in the Order applies to:

(a) any vehicle being used, or any person in connection with the execution of the said works; (b) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police officer in uniform or a civil enforcement officer; or (c) any vehicle being used, or any person needing access for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes.
