Hovik Abrahamyan was born on 24 January 1958 in Mkhchyan village, Ararat region (marz).
He graduated from the Yerevan Institute of National Economy. Completed service in the army.
1990-1991- Head of division of the Burastan brandy factory
1991-1995 - Director of the Artashat wine and brandy factory
1995-1999 - Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia (first convocation)
1995-1996 - Chairman of the Artashat city council executive committee
1996-1998 - Mayor of Artashat
1998-2000 - Prefect (marzpet) of the Ararat region (marz) of Armenia
2000-2001 - Minister coordinating RA territorial administration and town planning
2001-2002 - Minister of RA Territorial Administration
2002-2005 - Minister coordinating RA territorial administration and infrastructure
2005-2007 - Minister of RA Territorial Administration endowed with functions of coordinating minister
2007-2008 - RA Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of RA Territorial Administration
21 April 2008 - was appointed secretary general of RA presidential staff
24 August 2008 - was elected member of the National Assembly of RA (fourth convocation)
5 September 2008 - was dismissed from the position of the secretary general of RA presidential staff by the decree of the President 29 September 2008 - H. Abrahamyan was elected Chairman of the National Assembly of RA (fourth convocation)

H. Abrahamyan was awarded Anania Shirakatsi medal, RA Prime Minister’s commemorative medal, Marshall Baghramyan medal and Fridtjof Nansen commemorative gold medal.
He is married and has three children and four grandchildren.
