Registration and Overrides If entering UCF for the first time or registering for your final semester, it is important to know how to register for your courses and what to do if you run into the occasional problem as you move forward in your studies. Remember: you are never without help in choosing your courses here at UCF. Referring to your Degree Program (default is current catalog year, you may need to refer to the archive to view your catalog year) and contacting your College and Departmental Advisors are key in making sure your schedule plan will keep you on the path to graduation.

What are my UCFID and NID? UCFID: Your UCFID is your Personal Identification Number. Your UCFID is the key of accessing online registration, class schedule searches, adding or dropping classes, and lot of other functions, including viewing your grades and fee schedules. You will be asked to select a password when you first are assigned your UCFID. You may change your password at any time.

NID: Your NID is your Network Identification Number. Your NID is the key to accessing the UCF computer network, the Internet, the library, and a world of cyber information. This number is also generated for you when you become a student at UCF for the first time. Again, you need to select and register a password which you may change at any time.

How to get your UCFID and NID 1. Go to https://my.ucf.edu. 2. Beneath the login button, click on the link “What are my UCFID and NID?”. 3. On the next screen, enter your Social Security Number and birth date in YYMMDD format. For example, July 4, 1979 would be 790704. 4. Click on Submit. 5. Your UCFID and NID will appear below. 6. Further below is information about your default password. Your default password is the capital letter “P” followed by your date of birth in YYMMDD format. 7. Click on Return to myUCF. 8. On the next screen, enter your UCFID and default password. 9. Click on Sign On. 10. You will then be asked to change your default password. Follow the instructions to set a new Password and Password reminder clue. 11. Additional links “Forgot Your UCFID Password?” and “Need myUCF Help?” are available on the myUCF page.

REGISTRATION Class Schedule Search You can search for classes online though myUCF. First, you need to log in. 1. Go to https://my.ucf.edu. 2. Log in using your NID and password. 3. In the left-hand menu, click on Student Self Service, then click Class Search/Browse Catalog in your Student Center. 4. Select a Term, for example, “Spring 2008”. 5. Type in Class Search Criteria if you know the Course Subject and Course Number OR select “browse course catalog” near the top and search for your course by Letter. The above five steps are all that are required for finding a class; however, unless you want to see every class offered at the Main Campus during Spring 2008, you will need to narrow your search. There are several ways to do this. You can use one or all of the following suggestions. Class Search Criteria  Choose a Subject (Prefix) to see, for example, all the classes within the subject PUR-Public Relations.  Choose a Course Number to see all the classes of certain level. For example, typing “3%” will show all the classes at the 3000-level.  Other search options include: Course Career (Undergraduate or Graduate), Location (ex. Main Campus (Orlando), UCF at Cocoa, UCF at Daytona, etc.), and Special Course Groups (ex. GEP- Communications, Honors Classes, etc.).  Check or uncheck the box next to Open Classes Only to show or remove closed classes from the list. Additional Search Criteria  Meeting Time (ex. Between 5:00 and 9:00)  Day of Week  Instructor Last Name or First Name  Class Number (ex. 1136)  Course Title Keyword (ex. Statistics)  Course Component (ex. Discussion, lab, etc.)  Session (ex. A-First Six Weeks)  Mode of Instruction (ex. World Wide Web)  Campus  Department (ex. Accounting)

Before You Register Before you register, there are a few things you need to do to make the process go smoothly.  Check the Academic Calendar for all the important dates for Registration, Add/Drop, and Late Registration. The Academic Calendar can be found on the UCF website at www.ucf.edu, on myUCF in Helpful Resources. During Registration and Add/Drop, you can only register your appointment time. If you register for your first course that term during Late Registration and/or Add/Drop, you will be charged $100 Late Registration Fee.  Get your Degree Audit. If you are not sure how, go to the Degree Audit page on this website.  See your advisor. If you are not sure who your advisor is, contact the department of your major.  Know your NID and Password.  Check for Registration Holds. To view possible Holds, log in to myUCF, select Student Self Service, check the Holds section in your Student Center.  Check your Enrollment Appointment Time. To view your Enrollment Appointment, log in to myUCF, select Student Self Service, and see your Enrollment Appointment in your Student Center.

Registering for Classes Online 1. Go to https://my.ucf.edu. 2. Log into myUCF using your PID and password. 3. On the left hand menu, click on Student Self Service.. 4. Select Enroll from your Student Center 5. Select Term for which you want to register. 6. Enter Class Number if you know the Class Number OR select Search to Find Classes. 7. Click Select Class when desired class is found and is open (green circle). 8. Verify course information. If you have a Permission Number for the course, enter it on this page. Also, if this course has a Related Component (non-credit Lab or Discussion), you will be prompted to select the Component. Then, select Next. 9. Click Proceed To Step 2 Of 3. 10. Click Finish Enrolling. 11. The next screen will show you a status message for each class enrollment that indicated either successful registration (green check mark) or an error (red X). If an error occurred, you will be directed to view the “error log” see the reason so you can see what kept the registration from being completed successfully (see below). 12. View and verify your Class Schedule. Select My Class Schedule tab to display the List View option or the Weekly Calendar View option. 13. After you are finished, your should print out your Fee Invoice.

Error When Registering, But You Would Like To Pursue Enrollment (Override) Into A Course: Error Examples and how to follow up:  Requisite Not Met For A Class: If you believe you have met the prerequisite, submit proof of the requisite (ex. transcript or previous course schedule) online  Class is Full: Pursue the override with the department that offers the course  Class Limit Exceeded: You are only permitted to register yourself for 17 credit hours (Spring & Fall terms) and 14 credit hours (Summer term), if you need to go over the credit limit, you must contact the department of your major  Instructor’s Consent Required: You must contact the instructor or the department that offers the course to pursue the override Also see the Overrides section below for more information. Obtaining Your Fee Invoice 1. Go to https://my.ucf.edu. 2. Log into myUCF using your NID and password. 3. On the left-hand menu, click on Student Self Service. 4. Select Fee Invoice from the Finances section of your Student Center. 5. Click on your desired Term. 6. Your Fee Invoice will appear, which you can then print out and save for your records. Return to top Write this down! Once you have narrowed your search using some or all of the above suggestions, click on Search. The next screen will show the results. A class is open if there is a green circle; a class is closed if there is a blue square. If it is a class you think you would like to take, write down or print out the following:

Overrides The override process varies by Criminal Justice department, so you will need to ask someone in the department or someone who teaches the course how to proceed. One thing, though, is likely: for an override in any Criminal Justice department, you will need the course prefix and number, name of the class, date/time (the Class Number may also be helpful), and the reason why you need an override (i.e., what was the Error message when you tried to register for the course?).

ONLINE OVERRIDE When registering for a class, there are two possible outcomes; either you are enrolled into the course or you receive an error. Each error has a specific reason and, for most errors, it can be solved with an override.

Before continuing the override process make sure you have access to the following: PID (7 digit ID number, no letters. Also known as UCFID) Course Name, Section #, and CRN (Course Number). Status of class (Open, Closed, or Waitlisted) Picture of photo ID (Student ID or Driver’s License) Proof of pre-requisite(s) If taken at UCF- degree audit If taken at another public Florida institution- unofficial transcripts or screen captures showing full name, institution name, course number and prefix, and grade or current schedule showing you are in-progress for the pre-req.
