PROJECT OVERVIEW The Green Line LRT Project is ’s next transit (LRT) line. The first stage of construction for the Green Line LRT is recommended to extend from to 126 Avenue SE. This will add 20 kilometres of track and 14 stations to the existing LRT system.

The City of Calgary has requested ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX) modify an existing transmission line to accommodate the Green Line LRT routing between Inglewood and the 26 Avenue SE station in Ramsay. ENMAX has determined existing transmission poles are in direct conflict with the current design of the LRT construction.

Alteration of the transmission line is required to avoid any damage to ENMAX’s transmission infrastructure and ensure clearance for the LRT. ENMAX proposes to remove and salvage 21 existing wood poles and replace with a combination of 14 wood and steel poles as illustrated in the above map.

Construction will take approximately one month to complete and pending approval by the Utilities Commission, will commence in February 2018.

TRANSMISSION STRUCTURES The current transmission wood poles range from 14 to 22 metres in height. The new poles will be a combination of self-supporting steel and wood monopoles and range from 18 to 38 metres in height. Some of the poles are being removed and not being replaced as higher steel poles are being installed which allow for longer spans. These pole heights are required to allow for clearance above the LRT trains on the elevated platform.
