FA Vase Winners: 2002, 2009, 2010, 2011 WHITLEY BAY FC BW3 Welcome to Hillheads WHITLEY BAY v Team Northumbria Sage Northumberland Senior Cup 2nd Round Tuesday 22nd November 2011

Good evening and welcome to Hillheads Park for tonight’s Sage Northumberland Senior Cup 2nd Round game against Team Northumbria. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all players, officials and supporters of Team Northumbria and I hope they enjoy their evening with us. This will be the first ever meeting of the sides and although Team Northumbria are a division below us, they are clear leaders of the table and on current form could well be joining us in the First Division next season. There are striking similarities with last year’s Northern League Cup tie when we played the then Second Division leaders Newton Aycliffe and were well beaten so there can be absolutely no room for complacency as we take on the Northern League’s top scoring side tonight. What a tremendous game we saw here at Hillheads on Saturday! After some disappointing displays of late, our performance was a joy to watch with every player contributing to the victory. Tadcaster were a good side but once Paul Robinson scored that spectacular goal the result was never in doubt. Playing his part and scoring on his return debut was Chris Fawcett who we are delighted to welcome back to Hillheads after a short spell at Ashington. As part of the deal that saw Chris return last week. Phil Bell rejoined the Colliers. We are sorry to see Phil go but we wish him well, and the same applies to Darren Timmons, a loyal servant to the Club over the past five years who has moved up the coast to Blyth. Should the score in tonight’s game be level after 90 minutes, extra time will be played and if there is still no winner, there will be a replay at Team Northumbria’s Coach Lane ground at a date to be decided. Our next game here at Hillheads is next Tuesday when we play Shildon but before then we travel to Bishop Auckland on Saturday. Paul McIlduff Chairman HOWAY THE BAY! Enjoy Today’s Game

BW4 MATCH REPORTS FA CARLSBERG VASE 2nd ROUND WHITLEY BAY 4 TADCASTER ALBION 1 Saturday 19th November The magic of the FA Vase brought the fans out in force on Saturday and they enjoyed yet another vintage display in the competition that Whitley have made their own over the past three years. Tadcaster’s leading scorer Carl Stewart was looking lively and had chances for the visitors but after wasting one opportunity with a wayward finish, Coulson and Anderson both denied him with good defending. This was an excellent all round performance by Whitley with important contributions from every player. Their record breaking unbeaten run in the competition is now 27 games and on this form there is every chance that it will be extended further.

BW12 A brief history of Whitley Bay Football Club

1970’s The early 1970’s saw Bay’s successes continue with the League Cup being won in 1970/71, and the County Cup in 1970/71 and 1972/73. With the demise of amateur football the Club’s fortunes took a nosedive, culminating in them having to apply for re-election to the League in 1979/80. 1980’s In 1987/88, with fortunes rising, the club joined the Northern Premier League. In 1989/90 the Bay had their best ever run in the FA Cup, when they reached the 3rd Round, going down 1-0 at Rochdale, after a 1-0 win at then League side Scarborough, and in the 2nd Round defeating former winners Preston North End 2-0 in front of the BBC cameras. 1990’s The following season Whitley won not only the First Division Cup for the second time but also the Championship and promotion to the Premier Division. They finished in 11th spot in the 1993/94 season, their best position in the Premier Division. A decline in fortunes followed during the later 90’s and in 2000 Whitley were relegated back to the Northern League. 2000’s A new century marked the beginning of the most successful period in the club’s history as they rose to national prominence with record breaking achievements in the FA Vase. The 2001/02 season proved to be one of the most memorable in the clubs’ history when in only their second season in the competition and against all expectations they won the FA Vase at Villa Park, thanks to a spectacular Ian Chandler header in extra time against their Eastern League opponents Tiptree United. With expectations high, things didn’t go to plan the following season 1950’s and only 12 months after leading the team to Vase glory, The present Whitley Bay Football Club was formed in 1950 and Manager Andy Gowens resigned. was known as Whitley Bay Athletic.
