The sumptuous production, which opened in April of 2015, won the Tony Award for best musical revival last year, and had performed strongly at the box office for months. But its weekly grosses dropped after the departure of its Tony-winning star, Kelli O’Hara, in April. Lincoln Center, a nonprofit, said it would end the production on June 26, at which point it will have played 538 performances. A national tour is scheduled to begin in November. The show features music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The revival is directed by Bartlett Sher. C3 June 7, 2016 No More ‘Groundhog Day’ for One Powerful Producer By Michael Paulson Scott Rudin, a prolific and powerful producer on Broadway and in Hollywood, has withdrawn from a much- anticipated project to adapt the popular movie “Groundhog Day” into a stage musical. The development is abrupt and unexpected, occurring just weeks before the show is scheduled to begin performances at the Old Vic Theater in London. “Groundhog Day” is collaboration between the songwriter Tim Minchin and the director Matthew Warchus, following their success with “Matilda the Musical.” The new musical is scheduled to run there from July 15 to Sept. 17, and had been scheduled to begin performances on Broadway next January; it is not clear how Mr. -

SAVORING THE CLASSICAL TRADITION IN DRAMA ENGAGING PRESENTATIONS BY THE SHAKESPEARE GUILD I N P R O U D COLLABORATION WIT H THE NATIONAL ARTS CLUB THE PLAYERS, NEW YORK CITY THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION SALUTING A UNIQUE INSTITUTION ♦ Monday, November 26 Founded in 1917 by the Drama League, the Drama Book Shop became an independent store in 1923. Since 2001 it has been located on West 40th Street, where it provides a variety of services to the actors, directors, producers, and other theatre professionals who work both on and off Broadway. Many of its employees THE PLAYERS are young performers, and a number of them take part in 16 Gramercy Park South events at the Shop’s lovely black-box auditorium. In 2011 Manhattan the store was recognized by a Tony Award for Excellence RECEPTION 6:30, PANEL 7:00 in the Theatre . Not surprisingly, its beneficiaries (among them Admission Free playwrights Eric Bogosian, Moises Kaufman, Lin-Manuel Reservations Requested Miranda, Lynn Nottage, and Theresa Rebeck), have responded with alarm to reports that high rents may force the Shop to relocate or close. Sharing that concern, we joined The Players and such notables as actors Jim Dale, Jeffrey Hardy, and Peter Maloney, and writer Adam Gopnik to rally support for a cultural treasure. Conducted by Richard Kaufman in his Philharmonic debut and featuring Musica Sacra, directed by Kent Tritle, Amadeus: Live will take place Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, April l4 at 7:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. On April 11 actor Alec Baldwin — Philharmonic Board Member and Artistic Advisor of The Art of the Score — and special guest Tom Hulce — who earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Mozart — will introduce the film, replacing F. Murray Abraham, who had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict with his Off-Broadway play, Good for Otto. One of Wilder's nastiest, most cynical efforts, who can say he wasn't actually soft-pedalling? He certainly thought it was the best film he'd ever made. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Tom Shadyac, 1994) A goofy detective turns town upside-down in search of a missing dolphin - any old plot would have done for oven-ready megastar Jim Carrey. A ski-jump hairdo, a zillion impersonations, making his bum "talk" - Ace Ventura showcases Jim Carrey's near-rapturous gifts for physical comedy long before he became encumbered by notions of serious acting. An Actor's Revenge (Kon Ichikawa, 1963) Prolific Japanese director Ichikawa scored a bulls-eye with this beautifully stylized potboiler that took its cues from traditional Kabuki theatre. It's all ballasted by a terrific double performance from Kazuo Hasegawa both as the female-impersonator who has sworn vengeance for the death of his parents, and the raucous thief who helps him. The Addiction (Abel Ferrara, 1995) Ferrara's comic-horror vision of modern urban vampires is an underrated masterpiece, full- throatedly bizarre and offensive. The vampire takes blood from the innocent mortal and creates another vampire, condemned to an eternity of addiction and despair. Ferrara's mob movie The Funeral, released at the same time, had a similar vision of violence and humiliation. -

Mr. Fox talked about how much he’d enjoyed working not only with Sir David but with artistic director Jonathan Kent while co-starring in this Hampstead Theatre production. The Theatre Memphis Programs Collection Processed by Joan Cannon 2007 Memphis and Shelby County Room Memphis Public Library and Information Center 3030 Poplar Avenue Memphis, Tennessee 38111 Scope and Content The Theatre Memphis Programs Collection was donated to the Memphis Public Library and Information Center by many individual donors over several years. Consisting of programs from performances at Theatre Memphis between the years 1975 and 2007, the collection provides invaluable information on the operation of community theatre in Memphis. Each program includes the names of the director, cast and crew as well as information on the production. Theatre Memphis was established as the Little Theatre in 1921. For several years plays were performed in a variety of locations in Memphis including Germania Hall and the Nineteenth Century Club. In 1929 the Little Theatre was headquartered at the Pink Palace Museum Playhouse where they would remain until the mid-1970s. When the Pink Palace closed for renovations, the theatrical company opened their own venue on Perkins Extended in East Memphis. 2 June 2016 An unrivalled season this summer and autumn at the National Theatre Amadeus by Peter Shaffer with Lucian Msamati as Salieri The Red Barn, a new play by David Hare Stuff Happens, a rehearsed reading of David Hare's landmark play, staged to coincide with the publication of the Chilcot report Peter Pan, a Bristol Old Vic co-production directed by Sally Cookson with Sophie Thompson as Captain Hook/Mrs Darling and Paul Hilton as Peter Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour, a National Theatre of Scotland and Live Theatre co-production A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on Cancer, a Complicite Associates co-production with the National Theatre, in association with HOME Manchester River Stage, the National Theatre’s outdoor arts and music festival, returns to present a host of free weekend entertainment from 29 July to 29 August. The festival hosts takeover weekends from Latitude Festival, Rambert Dance Company, Bristol’s Mayfest, East London’s The Glory and the NT. Each weekend will stage the very best in live music, dance, performance, DJs and family workshops Connections 21, celebrating 21 years of the world’s largest youth arts festival. This autumn, Peter Shaffer’s classic play Amadeus makes a long-awaited return to the National after 37 years. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a rowdy young prodigy who arrives in Vienna determined to make a splash. Awestruck by his genius, Court Composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy it. Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music and, ultimately, with God. -

Meanwhile he was earning plaudits as a film and television comic, with eleven Carry On features that made him a NATIONAL ARTS CLUB household name in Britain. Next came stage roles like 15 Gramercy Park South Autolycus and Bottom with Laurence Olivier’s National Manhattan Theatre Company, and Fagin in Cameron Mackintosh’s PROGRAM AT 6:00 P.M. Oliver. In 1980 he collected a Tony Award for his title Admission Free, But role in Barnum. Since then he has been nominated for Reservations Requested Tony, Drama Desk, and other honors for his work in such plays as Candide, Comedians, Joe Egg, Me and My Girl, and Scapino. As if those accolades were not enough, he also holds two Grammy Awards and ten Audie Awards as the “voice” of Harry Potter. We look forward to a memorable evening with one of the most versatile performers in entertainment history. In Dice, three classic Runyon stories are intertwined with hits from the Loesser songbook, including “Heart and Soul,” “I Hear Music,” “Two Sleepy People,” and “Let’s Get Lost,” performed by iconic Damon Runyon gangland characters. Audiences who may be familiar with Nathan Detroit and Miss Adelaide from "Guys and Dolls" are delighting in meeting some of their colleagues-in-crime from Runyonland: Joey Uptown, Baseball Hattie, Tobias the Terrible, nightclub song bird Georgia St George and the much-in- demand safecracker, Touch Feely. Larry Sousa directs Lance Carter,* Sarah Errington,* Elliot Lazar, Jason Maddy,* Allison Spratt Pearce,* and Darrick Penny* in ANOTHER ROLL OF THE DICE.
