20 21 WHAT IS ENRICHMENT?

Whatever your interests, you are sure to find something to tempt you in our enrichment programme.

At Huish we are proud of our extensive range of enrichment opportunities. Students value the skills, knowledge and most importantly, the fun that enrichment provides through its social, cultural and recreational experiences. It is also a great way to meet new people and try new things.

We will discuss enrichment opportunities at your Advice and Guidance meeting and throughout your application process. Some activities are recorded at this point as they are built into your timetable as part of your Study Programme.

Other activities take place at lunchtime or after college and will be promoted through your tutorials in the first weeks of term. A number of enrichment activities lead to qualifications such as Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award, Japanese and Music exams.

More importantly though we ask ourselves a more searching set of questions; based on their starting position did our students gain the grades they might have expected, or did they do better during their time at Huish?

When students do better than expected we are said to ‘add value’ and this is arguably the best indication of how effective we are at teaching, supporting and inspiring our students. At Huish our ‘added value’ is very strong, meaning that our students make significantly more progress whilst they are with us, than they would in a different school or college. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and of the range and quality of universities, employers and training providers that they move on to after their studies at Huish.

The Huish Class of 2020 faced unprecedented times, with the whole

examination series being cancelled and students instead being awarded Keziah Gill-Stevens (former The Castle School) achieved Centre Assessed Grades by their teachers. They have shown tremendous resilience over recent months, we are hugely proud of their achievements and will continue to support them in every way we can. As one of the country’s highest performing Sixth Form Colleges, and one of the best in the South West, our consistent results show that we are the best place to study locally in the face of rigorous A Level examinations. Technical qualifications are continuing to have a greater prominence in the future educational landscape, so I am particularly delighted to see equally such excellent results in these subjects too. Of course, our students’ achievements begin with the efforts of our partner schools and are consolidated by the commitment, work and expertise of our College staff.
