2020 CHRISTMAS TREE PERMIT USDA Forest Service

A $10.00 permit is good for one tree up to twenty feet.

PERMIT TERMS

Open tree-cutting areas are identified on the following maps -- all other areas are closed.

Tree tag must be attached to the tree when cut and placed so it will be visible while transporting the tree. You must also have your permit and maps with you during cutting and transporting your tree.

Attatch your tag to the tree so it is visible from the rear of the vehicle when transporting.

Stumps must be cut no higher than 4 inches above the ground. This may require digging well below the snow level to find the ground! Taking only the top of a taller tree is prohibited.

Lodgepole pine, subalpine fir and Douglas-fir are available for cutting. Do NOT cut Engelmann spruce, ponderosa pine or the five needled whitebark pine.

Trees may NOT be cut within 200 feet of campgrounds, organization camps, summer home areas and other facilities.

Cut at least 150 feet from lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands on the Ketchum Ranger District and Sawtooth NRA. Cut at least 300 feet from lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands on the Fairfield and Minidoka Ranger Districts.

Do not drag trees across groomed cross country ski and snowmobile trails.

Winter recreation motorized and non-motorized travel restrictions apply. Check with local Forest Service Offices for information.
