Michael McGlynn

Was born in Dublin in 1964 and is both Composer-in-Residence and Artistic Director of ANÚNA, Ireland's National Choir, which he founded in 1987. Ireland has no indigenous history of choral music, and Michael created Anúna with the intent of developing a uniquely Irish form of ensemble singing that wove convincing connections between the ancient vocal traditions and literature of his homeland.

Michael's compositions have been commissioned and performed by some of the world's best-known ensembles including Chanticleer, Rajaton, Conspirare, New York Polyphony, The Phoenix and Kansas City Chorales and the BBC Singers.

He is curator of the highly successful Anúna Education Project, lectures and gives workshops on his music all over the world and has produced seventeen Anúna albums many of which have placed in the US Billboard and UK Charts. In 2017 he directed and scored the Noh Theatre/Anúna collaboration of “Takahime”, a Japanese reworking of Yeats' “At the Hawk's Well” at Tokyo's Orchard Hall. He was Eminent Scholar at Florida Atlantic University (2011-13) and received the 2017 University College Dublin Alumni Award in the Arts.

He is an accomplished tenor soloist specialising in Early Music. Country Music legend Rodney Crowell co- wrote the song I'm Tied To Ya' with Michael and it appears on his 2017 album “Close Ties” sung by Crowell duetting with Sheryl Crow. He is an accomplished flm-maker, and his work has been broadcast all over the world. He lives in Dublin with his family and is an ardent all-year sea swimmer and surfer.
