Gospel Message Deacon Milton Vega New Roof Capital Campaign

The readings for the XVII Sunday of the Old Testa- ment invite us to become humble instruments in God’s hands by sharing our blessings with our needy brothers and sisters. As a nation, who pro- fesses in God we Trust, and makes this our motto, we must continuously give thanks to our Lord for all heavenly blessings He has bestowed upon us since our nation’s birth, particularly for the abundance of food we enjoy in our nation, for many nations throughout the world, do not have the wealth we possess nor the means to fully feed their own peo- Plans for the New Roof Capital Campaign ple. Today’s readings also tell us that God really cares about His people, and that He provides more than enough for everybody. Social economic studies show that the world today produces enough food grains to provide every human being on the planet with 3,600 calories a day, not counting such foods as tuber crops, vegetables, beans, nuts, fruits, meats, and fish. There is an abundance of food as studies have shown, now it is a matter of making sure this is shared with everyone that needs it. Hence, let us pray and work for better social justice in all communities and countries. Who created the world? The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are the one principle of creation. When we speak of God, we mean the first principle of being, that is, the Transcendent Creator. This creator is Triune. He is One in Being but in three persons. The persons differ only in relationship to one another.

God is not a being among other beings, He is Being itself! Thus, every contingent thing that exists only ex- ists because God willed it into existence.

Why was the world created? God is infinitely perfect and therefore has no needs. God did not create anything out of necessity. So, why did He create the world? He created the world for his glory. He wished to show and communicate his goodness, truth, and beauty. Both the beginning and ultimate end of creation is God himself. God loved us into existence for our sake, not his own. In a very real sense, God created the world because he knew we would like it.

How did God create the world? God created all things visible and invisible with wisdom and love. The world was not created out of necessi- ty nor of blind fate nor of chance. God created the world out of nothing. It is a world that is ordered and good and which he infinitely transcends. When the bible speaks about God’s creation, it uses the Hebrew verb bara. This word means “He created/creating”. In Hebrew there can be no other subject of this verb other than God himself. Only God can create without material causes. God continues to preserve his creation in being and sustains it. Everything that exists continues to exist be- cause God keeps it in existence. The act of creation is not a one time event but continues in perpetuity.

Why did God create you? God created you because he loves you. He wants you to know him, love him and serve him in this life. He also wants you to share eternal happiness with him in the life to come. You are made in the image of God with both intellect and will. You are the summit of visible creation and your value does not depend on talents or job or usefulness. You are inherently valuable because God loves you.

How do we respond to God? God offers us grace to surrender to Him and accept the truth that is guaranteed by Him. Faith is trust in the promises that have been revealed in the Deposit of Faith. Belief in God means adhering to God himself and assenting to the truths which He has revealed. Faith is also a supernatural virtue which is necessary for salvation. It is a free gift that is offered to any who humbly seek it. This is distinct from the act of faith which is a human act of intellect prompted by the will by which we freely assent to divine truth. Our faith is certain because it is founded on God. It works through charity and grows by listening to the Word of God and prayer.
