DSWD DROMIC Report #2 on the Big Waves due to ITCZ and LPA in and Tawi-Tawi as of 24 October 2017, 7PM

Situation Overview On October 15, 2017, due to Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the Low Pressure Area (LPA), big waves occurred in Sulu and Tawi-Tawi where seven (7) barangays were affected and resulted displacement to hundreds of families. The affected families decided to leave their homes and temporarily stayed with their relatives and/or friends.

Status of Affected Families / Persons 682 families or 3,410 persons are affected in 12 barangays (see Table 1).

Status of Displaced Families / Persons There are 682 families or 3,410 Persons currently staying with their relatives and/or friends (see Table 2).

Damaged Houses There are a total of 30 damaged houses in Maimbun, Sulu. (See Table 3)

DREAMB DATE ACTION(S) TAKEN ● The Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center 23 October (DROMIC) of DSWD-DReAMB is on standby for monitoring reports related to the 2017-Present Big Waves due to ITCZ in Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

DSWD-FO IX DATE ACTION(S) TAKEN ● The DSWD-FO IX through its Disaster Response Unit is closely coordinating with 23 October the PSWDOs of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi for updates on the status of the affected 2017-Present families and assistance needed.

*** The Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) of DSWD continues to closely coordinate with DSWD-Field Office IX for significant updates on relief assistance and response efforts.
