THE CANDIDATURE FOR EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORT

EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORT: COMMUNICATION

The City of Sant Cugat lives and loves sport. It promotes and encourages the practice of physical activity and foments healthy living.

A city with a privileged natural environment, outdoor spaces and excellent sports facilities.

The data shows that the City and sport are closely linked: 88% of residents engage in some form of sport; there are about eighty sports clubs and organisations, with more than 7,000 federated athletes; and more than 3,000 children participate annually in the sports programmes that are organised by the City Council.

But for us, sport is not only about competition but also about the value of improving oneself. That is why, together with sports organisations, we are promoting an innovative project that seeks to promote ethics and values on the sports field.

Becoming a candidate to be the European City of Sport in 2018 is only possible by working in partnership with organisations, clubs, associations and, obviously, citizens. Sport helps to achieve social cohesion.

There is a clear link between the City of Sant Cugat and sport, and we have all the assets needed to make sport one of the main engines to promote our city by Sant Cugat being named as the European City of Sport.
