The LIGRA Board along with our Executive Director had spent days interview- ing candidates for the Nassau as well as the Suffolk County Legislature. We interviewed incumbents as well as non-incumbents. The objective of these yearly screenings is to determine which candidates support issues of im- portance to our industry, which includes gas, repair, and convenience stores. Insurance Tips for LIGRA Members How can you save money while protecting your business? We have been insuring LIGRA Members since 1986 and we have learned a lot about the many auto service businesses that make up the membership. For this article, we will focus on a few helpful tips that can be very helpful for LIGRA members. Workers Compensation. 1 If you are a LIGRA Member and eligible You should be in LIGRA’s workers compensation safety group. We have paid a dividend of 30% or more every single year since 1992 with a 20%25% upfront discount 2 New Temporary Change of Duties code 8873If you had employees getting paid but not working or working remotely, you may be eligible to reclassify those employees into a lower rating. NYSCIRB has created code 8873 to accommodate paid workers who were (idle) or performed clerical duties from home during COVID. You or your accountant should discuss this at audit. 3 Ask us how you may be able to deduct the workers comp premium at every payroll. This can avoid large deposits and additional or return premium at audit. Liability & Property Insurance 1 Insurance requirements from Landlords and distributors are required to protect them, not you. Please remember your insurance needs, they may be far different from theirs. 2 Before cutting coverage, think about higher deductibles. Our experience is that most of our clients wor- ry about the large claim and we agree that it is the best way for most clients 3 Risk tolerance vary from one to another. We would be happy to help you with this. Keeping claims as few as possible is the single best practice to save on insurance premiums and also better for your business. Determine unsafe conditions, fire or tripping hazards and correct them as soon as possi- ble. If you would like an assessment, we will be happy to help. New York: They have been notifying members in New York who are enrolled in MedicarePart A, but not MedicarePart Bcoverage of the following: Changes to Oxford will apply Medicare Estimation when processing their claims.
