Kia ora Koutou

Yesterday it was National Support Staff day in NZ schools and this is a time when we acknowledge the excellent work our teacher aides, office staff, cleaners & caretaker perform here at West Eyreton.

We are extremely well supported by the wonderful team who work here at our school. The contribution they all make in so many aspects of our school day is outstanding.

I know that you all join us in sending them special thanks.

Jillian Gallagher - Principal.

Last Week’s Wheels Day Photos:

Thank you to Mark Bishop and the Year 7 & 8 leadership Events team for organising the Wheels & Skate days for everyone this term. It’s such a fun & active way for pupils to spend their break times, and the high energy music playing out over the sound system sounds really dynamic.

Sports Teams:

North Canterbury Cross Country: West Eyreton School sent a small but strong team to the Domain to compete against all other schools in North Canterbury in this cross country competition.

All students did extremely well and came home in the top quarter of their race. Joshua (Year 8) qualified to represent North Canterbury in the Canterbury Cross Country Competition which will be held at Halswell Quarry at a later date. Congratulations Josh!

Here is a photo of some of our athletes competing in their race . . .

Competitive Soccer Competition: On Friday 9th June our Year 7/8 football team competed against Pegasus School. I am thrilled to announce that our team won 7 - 3. A special mention about Ebe and Tom our two goal keepers for making some good saves in the goal area.

Congratulations team!

School News:

New Pupils: Welcome to Lilly (Room 8), Jessica (Room 4) and Matthew (Room 2) who enrolled here with us this week.

E Awards: The E focus for the last fortnight has been Empathy – “Listen and respond appropriately to ideas and opinions of others”.

A full assembly will be held tomorrow, Friday 16th June at 9.00a.m. in the school hall. Parents, caregivers & families are welcome to attend.

The new E focus for the next fortnight is Excellence - striving for a high standard of presentation with all work.”

The whakatauki for the new E focus is “Kaua e mutu takiwa noa iho – Don’t give up.”

The Year 7 & 8 Sports Leadership team will be running this assembly with Room 6 pupils sharing their learning. All parents, caregivers and families are welcome to attend.

Mufti Day:

Last Friday’s Mufti Day, in support of the World Vision 40 hour Famine to help the children in Syria, raised $258.60. Thank you to everyone for your support of this fundraiser.

Sports Tournament - Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 on Friday 30th June: All of our Year 5 - 8 students will be playing in a tournament at Oxford Area School. Students have had the opportunity to choose either touch rugby or hockey to play. Hockey - all students are expected to have (already) their own mouthguard and shin-pads, if they don't have these items then they will play touch rugby.

This tournament is to provide students the opportunity to play in a team in a fun and non-threatening environment. It also provides an opportunity for our senior students to show leadership and give our inexperienced players a chance to learn from those with more refined skills.

However, to ensure all games run smoothly we are in need of parent helpers to support our teams (I will ensure you are with your own child/ren's team). Please email [email protected] by Friday 16th June. You do not need to know all of the rules of the games and you do not have to be police vetted.

We are in need of parents to support TEAM 2, TEAM 4 AND TEAM 5 - Touch Rugby

Oxford School's senior students will be our referees. As they are volunteering to help run our games it would be greatly appreciated if they were fully supported while refereeing. Thank you Linda Marshall.
