The Consulate General of in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is pleased to issue the first edition of Malawakil Dubai’s e-newsletter for 2019. THE ARRIVAL OF THE NEW CONSUL GENERAL OF MALAYSIA IN DUBAI, UAE

DUBAI, 28 JUNE: Heads of agency in Dubai and members of the Consulate General Office received Mohd Hasril Abdul Hamid, the new Consul General of Malaysia in Dubai, at Dubai International Airport.

Mohd Hasril is the fourth Consul General of Malaysia in Dubai since the Office’s establishment. Under the Sistem Pentadbiran Kerajaan Malaysia (SPKM) initiatives, the Consulate General is tasked to take responsibilities on matters stipulated under the SPKM and head several Malaysian Government agencies under its establishments such as MATRADE, MIDA, Education Malaysia,

Agriculture and Tourism Malaysia offices.

DUBAI, 20 JUNE: Officials and spouses of the Consulate General’s Office in Dubai gathered at Dubai International Airport to send off the departing Consul General, YBhg. Dato’ Yubazlan Yusof who has

been appointed as the Ambassador of Malaysia to Azerbaijan.

A few Malaysians based in Dubai were also present. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to YBhg. Dato’ Yubazlan Yusof, for his great service and contributions. We wish YBhg. Dato’ and his family all the best in the future.

PAVILION AT THE ARABIAN TRAVEL MARKET BY YB DATUK MOHAMMADIN KETAPI, MINISTER OF TOURISM, ARTS AND CULTURE OF MALAYSIA

DUBAI, 28 APRIL: YB Datuk Mohammadin Ketapi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia officially launched the Malaysia Pavilion at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2019 in Dubai. The occasion was also attended by the Director General of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Musa Yusof and Consul General of Malaysia to Dubai, Dato’ Yubazlan Yusof.

The Honourable Minister was leading a delegation of 87 Malaysian participants from 61 organisations to participate in ATM in Dubai from 28 April to 1 May 2019. The participation in ATM 2019 was in line with Tourism Malaysia’s continuous

efforts to publicise the Visit Malaysia (VM) 2020 campaign to tourism industry players in the Middle East. Malaysia is certainly stepping up its promotion this year in preparation of Visit Malaysia 2020, during which the target is to welcome 30 million tourists from around the world with RM100 billion tourist receipts. Through its participation in ATM, Tourism Malaysia sought to attract more West Asian tourists to its shores to achieve its tourism target for 2019. The tourist arrivals from West Asia have rebounded to Malaysia by 25.3% in 2018 from 251,937 to 315,937 led by the growth of Oman (+36.9%), KSA (11.6%) and UAE (9.7%). Last year, Malaysia recorded RM3.1 billion of

tourist receipts from West Asia, a growth of 32.9% as compared to the previous year.

DUBAI, 4 JUNE: The Consulate General of Malaysia in Dubai (Malawakil Dubai) organised Eid Fitri’s Open House for all Malaysians residing in Dubai and Northern Emirates at MATRADE Foyer, Al Safeena Building, Oud Mehta. More than 400 Malaysians and their family members attended the event that become an annual gathering of Malaysians during the first day of Eid. Guests were served with generous Raya delicacies like nasi impit, kuah kacang, rendang, lontong and kuih raya in a festive atmosphere.

Sultan Ahmad Shah passed away on 22 May 2019 at Shah was the father of present His Majesty Yang Di- 8:50 am at the National Heart Institute, Kuala Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan in Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Lumpur at aged 88.
