New Art Map for Wolverhamtpon Goes Live Art Map Wolverhampton highlights the great public art and cultural buildings that the city has to offer and makes it easier for you to travel around. Art Map Wolverhampton was produced by Project Dandelion with participating students from Colton Hills Community School, Heath Park Business and Enterprise College, King’s CE School and St Edmunds Catholic School. All aboard the Art Bus! Take an after-hours tour of the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Ikon Gallery, the RBSA Gallery, Eastside Projects and mac .Birmingham’s galleries are celebrating the festive season with a return of the popular FREE Galleries Night and Art Bus on Friday 2 December, 5 – 9pm.Travel on the Art Bus and visit the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Ikon Gallery, the RBSA Gallery and mac birmingham in one night. Plus, for the first time this year, there will also be a stop at Eastside Projects in Digbeth. All five galleries are open late, with free tours as well as mulled wine and mince pies for visitors. It's also a good opportunity to do some Christmas shopping, with books, jewellery, works of art, designer-maker craft and gift items, pocket money treats and other bespoke presents available from the Barber, Ikon Gallery and the RBSA Gallery. AngelShares - New Crowdfunding Website AngelShares crowdfunding website is now live. See website for more details: www.AngelShares.com If you, or someone you know is interested in posting a project, or making a donation contact: Sarah Gee on [email protected] AngelShares, a new philanthropic crowd funding website for arts and cultural projects, has launched in the UK. Projects are posted on the site by organisations or individual artists, curated by the AngelShares team, and donors are then encouraged to invest to make the projects happen. The donors’ ‘return’ comes in the form of exclusive benefits offered by the project owners, such as opportunities for private visits to galleries or historic houses, opportunities to meet creative artists, or quirky gifts or acknowledgements of their support. AngelShares offers a very flexible approach for those seeking support. It is the only arts and cultural crowdfunding site that collects Gift Aid on donations, and offers projects the option of setting an income target by a timed deadline, or simply receiving on-going donations.

Programme Announced – Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art One of the UK's boldest visual arts events, the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art returns in April 2012, bringing together exhibitions by the best international and local artists, from Turner Prize winners to the most exciting, emerging talent. The Festival builds on the successes of previous years, showcasing work by more than 130 artists in over 50 of Glasgow's best permanent and temporary exhibition venues across the length and breadth of the city. The 18-day Festival programme includes many newly-commissioned works, including several that draw on a range of other disciplines, including dance, film, music, performance and theatre. The standard is incredibly high and features an extensive diversity of practice featuring Alan Stanners, Karla Black, Emory Douglas, Kelly Nipper and Birmingham’s Extra Special People to name only a few. NEW History Sculpture Commission, Queen Elizabeth Hospitals Birmingham The new Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham (QEHB) opened in June 2010 and is pleased to announce a commission opportunity for an artist or designer to develop artwork reflecting the history of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) and the hospitals that now form part of UHB. It is envisaged that the artwork will be immediately outside the main entrance of the new QEHB. We are seeking expressions of interest from artists or designers with experience of public art. The QEHB, which is now the UK's largest single-site hospital, employs approximately 7,000 staff and cares for around 700, 000 patients per year. NEW Sculpture Commission: Leicestershire, Mantle Arts Mantle Arts, working in partnership with Lutterworth Town Council, wish to appoint an artist to create a sculptural ‘gateway feature’ for the town.The aim is to create a modern, iconic art work which will symbolise and celebrate the south Leicestershire town of Lutterworth now and in the future, whilst also acknowledging its heritage and sense of place. The preferred medium is stone or a combination of stone or other materials and, as well as creating the sculpture, the successful applicant will run workshops with local schools and community groups to ensure community involvement in the project. A fee of £12,000 inclusive of materials and other expenses will be paid for the creation and installation of the sculpture. Fees and travel costs for the workshops will be paid in addition. The work will take place during the first half of next year and it is planned that the unveiling of the sculpture will coincide with the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in June 2012. NEW The Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI): Staten Island, New York In partnership with New York City's Department of Parks & Recreation, the 2012 Land Art Generator Initiative design competition is being held for a site within Freshkills Park (the former Fresh Kills landfill) in Staten Island, New York City. LAGI is a landmark initiative that has brought together artists, architects, scientists, landscape architects, and engineers in a first of its kind collaboration. The goal of the Land Art Generator Initiative is to design and construct a series of public art installations that uniquely combine aesthetics with utility-scale clean energy generation. The works will serve to inspire and educate while they provide renewable power to thousands of homes around the world. The monetary prize award (details in the coming months) will not guarantee a commission for construction; however, LAGI will work with stakeholders both locally (NYC) and internationally to pursue possibilities for implementation of the most pragmatic and aesthetic LAGI designs. Marie Curie Cancer Care West Midlands Hospice: Call for Submissions Marie Curie Cancer Care are looking to commission two pieces for the following areas (Please note allocated budget for each piece): 1. A sculpture for the front of the building. £45,000 (inc. VAT) 2. A piece for the double height atrium. £12,000 (inc. VAT) Each piece should follow the theme of the 'Four Seasons.' These can be either a solitary piece or a series of up to 3 related or connected pieces. Please note that no fee is payable at this ‘expression of interest’ stage. A Unique Commission: Sculptural proposals for a new public artwork in the form of a large-scale floor work of the UK Geological Map Sculptural proposals for a new public artwork in the form of a large-scale floor work of the UK Geological Map. The commission will be completed using rock types relevant to the geologically different areas from around the country. Deadline for project artists' proposals: 6 January 2012. Call for Artists: Telford & Wrekin Open Art Exhibition 2012 Telford & Wrekin Council will be holding their annual Open Art Exhibition between Tuesday 10 January and Saturday 18 February 2012. Artists aged 18 years and over from anywhere in the UK are invited to submit up to two pieces of original, two dimensional artwork in any media and on any theme. All artwork submitted will be judged by an independent panel and cash prizes of £500, £300 and £200 will be awarded to the winners at a private view event on Saturday 14 January. Open Submission: Project Dandelion, Wolverhampton Project Dandelion is a public art project, introduced in 2011 that enables new art commissions and projects to take place across the BSF (Building Schools for the Future) programme in Wolverhampton. We are a team of arts professionals who are working across 23 Wolverhampton secondary schools over three years. The art commissions and projects we are delivering are a result of school engagement, new architecture and new opportunities for transformation and learning. We are currently seeking submissions from artists based in the UK for a commission we are calling ‘Interactive Welcome’. Fee: £18,000 (including all materials, expenses and installation). Installation Date: August 2012. The ‘Interactive Welcome’ is a unique opportunity for the main entrance space of a new school that is Highfields and Penn Fields School, Wolverhampton. SHOUT Festival, Birmingham Welcome to the third annual SHOUT Festival – Birmingham’s Festival of Queer Culture. Since launching in 2009, SHOUT has quickly grown to become one of Birmingham’s unique and innovative independent festivals and, for the first time, we are delighted to be expanding SHOUT to Wolverhampton and West Bromwich. NEW Group Occupation - Artist Residencies for ESP members at The New Art Gallery Walsall 6 March – 2 June 2012 Extra Special People (ESP) and The New Art Gallery Walsall (TNAGW) have teamed up to offer Group Occupation, a series of short, practical residencies for nine ESP members. Working in the Artists’ Studio at TNAGW, artists will occupy the space in groups of three for one- month at a time during March, April and May 2012.Group Occupation will provide artists with support, time and space within a mutually supportive group context in which to develop new work. Artists will be grouped together thoughtfully according to their practice, interests and approach to the residency, encouraging a useful dialogue and possibilities for working together. Artists will also receive critical support from ESP including facilitated critical group discussions with an artist of their choice. NEW Residency - CoExist Gallery, Southend On Site is a new residency open to artists working in all media and at any stage in their career, providing £1000 to cover materials and free accommodation in Southend. Turner Prize winner Grenville Davey will be selecting one artist to spend a month making new work. Fire Station Work/Live Residency Acme Studios is offering a three-year work/live residency as part of its Fire Station Residency Programme in East London. In 2010, twelve artists were selected from a national submission for the five-year programme. One of the original artists is leaving to take up another opportunity and as a result Acme has created a three-year residency which will run from 1 March 2012 until February 2015.Located in a former fire station bought in 1997 and converted with funding from the National Lottery and other sources, the programme is one of the most directly supportive schemes for artists in the UK, providing combined studio and living space at low rents. Exhibition Designer - Craftspace The Making Moves partnership is seeking experienced exhibition designers to design flexible, contemporary build and interpretation for the project’s touring exhibition. The Making Moves tour will visit twelve non-traditional venues, three in each participating local authority. These venues are not ‘art’ venues and will not necessarily have experience of taking exhibitions and are unlikely to provide invigilation beyond some front of house support. Visitors to the venues will also not be expecting to see an exhibition and so the exhibition will need to be designed to have a strong presence. Full Circle Project: screen heritage event 1pm FREE Do you have any film, video or dusty old reels tucked away in your attic or garage? These are a vital part of the region's heritage, whether they capture family moments or events and news stories. The Full Circle project will ensure the long term preservation of the original films so that they can go on being used by future generations.The programme for Friday 2 December will start at 1pm with an introduction by Kay Ogilvie. This will be followed by a screening of local archive films from the MACE collection. You can watch films showing Radford Semele from the 1930s and Leamington Spa from the 1950s. It will also be possible to bring in any film or video for Kay to have a look at.
