Amy Murphy is a litigator with an emphasis in Practice Areas complex civil, white collar, and appellate Litigation litigation. She has served as counsel in a Commercial Litigation variety of matters, including cases involving Criminal claims of breach of contract, breach of Government Investigations fiduciary duty, shareholder oppression, theft Professional Liability of trade secrets, violation of noncompetition Products Liability clauses, legal malpractice, and civil theft. She Unfair Competition represents clients in high stakes business White Collar disputes, automotive supply chain litigation, Election Law and cases involving allegations of sexual abuse. She has defended clients in Education investigations by state and federal enforcement agencies. The Honorable Anthony J. Scirica, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit The Honorable Richard D. Bennett, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland including taking and defending depositions, drafting dispositive motions, preparing witnesses for examination, arguing motions, and conducting document collection and review. She participated on a trial team in a complex, multi-party case in federal court involving allegations of theft, partnership, and breach of contract.

Amy works with clients ranging from public and privately held companies, family-owned businesses, non-profit organizations, national and regional law firms, targets of government investigations, company executives, and private individuals.

Amy practiced in Washington, DC for three years before moving to Grand Rapids.

Amy is a member of the bars of Michigan and the District of Columbia. She serves as a chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Federal Bar Association for the Western District of Michigan. She is also a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association and the international Women’s White Collar Defense Association. She serves as the Social Media Coordinator of the Michigan Chapter of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association.

Amy served as a law clerk to the Honorable Anthony J. Scirica of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 2013 to 2014 and the Honorable Richard D. Bennett of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland from 2012 to 2013.

Community Activities

Amy volunteers for the YWCA of West Central Michigan. She serves on the Board of Trustees of Opera Grand Rapids. She is an avid runner.

Education

Amy is a graduate of the Law School, where she earned her law degree with honors in 2012 and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan Law Review.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009.
