Wingfield Ward Profile 2019

Description Wingfield Ward lies in the north-west of the Borough, with a population of 11,640 (2017) and an area of 586 hectares. Wingfield covers the mainly council housing areas of Rockingham, Wingfield, Munsbrough and eastern Kimberworth Park. A high proportion of council homes in the ward are flats. Deprivation is generally quite high in the ward, especially in Wingfield and Kimberworth Park, which is divided between Wingfield and Keppel wards. The main area of private housing is Greasbrough which is an old village with some terraced housing. On the northern and eastern fringes of Greasbrough is open countryside. Most of the open land in the south east is designated for the new Bassingthorpe housing development in the longer term.

Workplace employment in Wingfield has reduced since 2011 but there is still a relatively high proportion of people employed in manufacturing. Employment levels in the ward depend on opportunities in other areas such as the town centre as local jobs were sufficient for 35% of working age people.

Wingfield had higher rates of poor health and disability than the Borough average in 2011 and was much higher than the national average. This is reflected in the relatively high proportion of people of all ages on disability benefits. Lifestyle and Specific Health Issues Around three-quarters of health and lifestyle indicators are worse (have higher rates) than Rotherham average.
