Position: Teacher Librarian

Reports to: Learning Resources Centre Coordinator Key Internal Liaisons: Assistant Principal: Learning and Teaching Learning Leaders Technician Conditions Conditions are as per the Victorian Catholic Education Multi Enterprise Agreement 2018. This is a part-time (0.6FTE) position (3 days per week).

All staff members of Kilbreda College are expected to support Catholic education in the Brigidine tradition as expressed in the College’s vision and mission statements. Staff are expected to reflect the values of Kildare Ministries in the way that they perform their role and in the relationships they form with all members of the College community. Each staff member’s role is designed to contribute to the best possible educational outcomes for all students, enhance the community’s strengths and ensure careful stewardship of the College’s resources.

The primary objective of the Teacher Librarian is to advocate and build effective library and information services and programs that develop skills and promote a reading culture. The Teacher Librarian works closely with the Learning Resources Centre Coordinator and Learning Leaders to support and enhance the curriculum of the College.

Child safety: It is an expectation that every staff member be familiar and comply with, the College's Child Protection and Safety Policy, Code of Conduct and any other policies or procedures relating to child safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

1. Learning and Teaching

• Work with the Assistant Principal – Learning and Teaching and Learning Leaders to ensure information literacy outcomes are a focus • Raise staff awareness of the need for students to acquire information skills and of the importance of resource-based learning in developing these skills • Promote the use of the information process as a framework for the development of information skills; • Maintain literacy as a high priority, engaging students in reading, viewing and listening for understanding and enjoyment • In conjunction with the Learning Leader: English establish a schedule for, and deliver Book Talks for Year 7 – 10 English classes where all students are encouraged to read a wide range of authors, genres and themes 2

• Analyse, create and select digital resources for LibGuides to support and enrich the curriculum • Maintain the structure and currency of LibGuides to provide subject specific resources for class use and other relevant resources to enhance student knowledge, understanding and skills • Together with the Learning Resources Centre Coordinator lead introduction to the library sessions for Year 7 students as part of their transition to the College • Liaise with subject teachers to create units/lessons to enhance their teaching programs • Assist the Learning Resource Centre Coordinator with assessing the existing electronic and printed collections against the curriculum. Actively maintain the relevance of the collections to the curriculum through suggesting new resources and through the of resources • Contribute ideas and provide fun and meaningful ways to promote literature to the whole school community during Book Week and at other times during the year • Provide enrichment opportunities for students who are passionate about reading and writing, for example: book clubs, Write a Book in a Day competition and other reading/writing events • Keep abreast of curriculum changes at the College and new courses of study • Participate in curriculum initiatives for the College as required

2. Library Resource Centre

• Educate staff about the Library’s roles, programs and resources • Prepare both print and digital displays which promotes reading • Provide exemplary reference and information services to the school community • Ensure that all students have access to resources appropriate for their differentiated needs and offer resources in a variety of formats • Adopt strategies to continually improve efficiency and maximise access to electronic and print resources • Provide a welcoming learning environment in which students feel confident that their information needs will be addressed • Attend Teacher Librarian Network Meetings and participate in professional learning to maintain aware of current educational trends and initiatives • Provide back-up support to the Library Technician and Library Resources Centre Coordinator with circulation desk and general duties including: i. providing assistance with resources, computer, printing and photocopying queries; ii. issuing and returning all library resources; iii. supervising private study students. • Maintain positive relationships with all Library users and respond appropriately to student and staff issues • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and processes and provide recommendations to the Learning Resource Centre Coordinator for change when appropriate

3. General Accountabilities for All Staff • Demonstrate duty of care to students in relation to their physical and mental wellbeing • Be well informed and comply with the College’s obligations in relation to Child Safe Standards and processes for reporting suspected abuse • Be familiar with and comply with all College policies and procedures • Demonstrate professional and collegial relationships with colleagues • Adhere to the College’s professional dress code for staff • Attend all relevant staff meetings, assemblies, College masses, community days and staff professional learning days / sessions • Attend and participate in College community evenings and events relevant to the role • Commit to and actively support the College’s agenda for continuous improvement through participation in school improvement planning 3

• Demonstrate alignment and support for the Catholic, Kildare Ministries and Brigidine ethos of the College • Support the Vision, Mission and Values of the College

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic Education and an understanding of the importance of charism and spiritual tradition in the life of an order-owned Catholic school • A commitment to the safety, wellbeing and protection of all children • Recognised teaching qualifications and qualifications in librarianship together with current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) • Advanced ICT skills and experience in providing ICT and research support to both staff and students • Demonstrated experience working effectively as part of a committed client focussed team • Personal skills of flexibility, adaptability as well as a high degree of motivation • Ability to implement effective teaching and learning strategies in order to cater for different learning styles • Demonstrated ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with staff and students • A strong commitment to team work and working collaboratively with others • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills • Enthusiasm, motivation and initiative • A commitment to their ongoing professional learning and development.
